how to find last updates for Centos 5.3?
I'm setting up a Rocks Cluster Linux system <http://www.rocksclusters.org> using Centos 5.3 as the OS. Rocks is an organizing framework for multi node systems, it tries to orchestrate kickstart installs across many systems and interaction among those many systems as a compute cluster. One problem with administering these systems is that the OS updates can break the Rocks framework.

Best way to hold at 5.3 release
I need to do some testing with 5.3 as its suggested that 5.4 has "some bugs in the toolchain and libc". That being the case, I can install with a url and repo line pointing to a mirror with 5.3 still but how does one properly make sure during subsequent uses of yum it doesn't attempt to use 5.4 rpms? Is it simple enough to just manually set '$releasever' to 5.3 in the repo

CentOS 5.6 PHP 5.3 and SquirrelMail
OK, so I did an upgrade to PHP 5.3 on one of my servers. I noticed the uninstall of php also removed SquirrelMail and it won't install under PHP 5.3. Has anybody worked this out with a good RPM or repo solution? -- John Hinton 877-777-1407 ext 502 http://www.ew3d.com Comprehensive Online Solutions

kvm in Centos 5.3
Hi All, Is KVM support in CentOS 5.3 complete? That is, can a CentOS 5.3 system host KVM VMs or does CentOS 5.3 only support being virtualized via KVM? I ask because I installed KVM on a CentOS 5.3 host, but I can't find a kvm module anywhere in /lib/modules/* (let alone the running kernel). what people really mean when they say they're running "5.3"?
more a terminology usage question than anything else, but in a couple of weeks, i'll be teaching the first of a few sessions on RHEL admin and, unsurprisingly, i'll be using centos (as i've done in the past). when i asked the organizer to identify the specific version of RHEL that was being used at the client site, i was told 5.3 so i can easily install 5.3 on the classroom

installing 5.3 with 512M ram really slow
I was installing centos 5.3 x86_64 on a sempron 2.7G machine with 512M ram. The install started off fine then REALLY SLOWED down about 70% into install. I did have a swap space. after that it just crawled. I tried restart the install a couple times at 512M. Same thing around 70% the slow down. I then put in 1G of RAM and everything zipped on past and finished fine. Does 5.3 have minimum

Logrotate in CentOS 5.4 more brutal (to httpd at least) than in 5.3?
I've just updated a few CentOS 5.3 servers to 5.4. One of them were a Apache Webserver. Doing a diff/check on the new ".rpmnew" config files that are made, I saw that the logrotate command for apache was changed. In 5.3 it did a reload, but in 5.4 it does a hard kill: CentOS 5.3: /var/log/httpd/*log { missingok notifempty sharedscripts postrotate

Moving the system from 5.3 to 5.4
Hello, I built a system based on centos 5.3, now i'm planing to move to 5.4. To do it I rebuilt all rpms making some changes. When I use a common centos 5.3, it automatically detects that 5.4 is available and move update for it when i run yum update. How does this work? How the system detects new version and update for it? I thought centos-release rpm just update repo for it, but I saw this

local centos repository upgrade from 5.3 to 5.4
Hi list, I run quite a few centos 5.3 servers and have a local yum repository which is working fine. Below a list of what I'm rsyncing at the moment + an extract from my / etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Base.repo file I copied the OS directory from the install media and ran createrepo on that dir. I would like to upgrade my servers to 5.4. I was wondering if I could simply replace the

Centos long end of life support, but im interested in packages themselves.
Hi Guys Im hoping someone would be so kind to answer my question. Where I work we are currently reviewing and making use of Centos, because of its long end of life support. CentOS-6 updates until November 30, 2020 The question I would like to ask is. Say Centos 6 offers and makes use of PHP 5.3. Say as time goes on PHP themselves deprecate 5.3 and EOL is reached. Would Centos 6 continue to

CentOS 5.3
Hey folks! Does any one have an idea as to when centOS 5.3 will be out and if so then I would like to hear from you coz I am waiting for it day and night coz I heard that the kernel of centos 5.3 will have inbuilt support for intel pro/wireless 3945 wifi card ( I have been trying to install the drivers desperately with no fruit ). And by the way does any body know how I can safely upgrade from
