A 4x slower initialization loop in LLVM vs GCC and MSVC
Hi everyone, I was watching this video [1]. There's an example of an initialization loop for which Clang unfortunately generates really bad code [2]. In my machine, the Clang version is 4x slower than the GCC version. I have not tested the MSVC version, but it should be around the same. In case anyone's interested, in the video [1] Casey explains why this code is bad (around 59:39). So, I tried to run -print-after-all [3]. There are a lot of passes that interact here, so I was...

Security Guide for CentOS/RHEL
Is there a step by step approach to securing CentOS 4X (or even RHEL 4X)? I don't mean the stuff in the docs/security guide but a working step by step guide? There used to be packages like rkhunter and tripwire but I don't know if the ones in rpmforge/kbs repo are up to date. Thanks, Josh.

system suggestion
I''m looking over a couple of used systems that I can get for less than 150USD. I can''t seem to decide if I should splurge and get a 4x box for 25 dollars more than a 2x at a slightly higher clockspeed. 112952-001-B1-06 Proliant 6500 - 4xPIII Xeon500MHz/1MB, 256MB 100738-003-B1-06 Proliant 5500 - 2xPIIIXeon550MHz/512KB, 256MB Any suggestions? I read that domU''s will be able to see multiple processors in a later vers...

UDP transfer speed exceeding the ceil by about 4x
...rent 1:6 leaf 870: prio 7 quantum 1500 rate 2560bit ceil 43520bit burst 15Kb/8 mpu 0b overhead 0b cburst 1653b/8 mpu 0b overhead 0b level 0 and my traffic is being classified properly, however, UDP traffic is able to exceed the ceiling rate on 1:613 and it''s parents, and tops out at about 4x whatever I set that ceil to (I tried several values, and the UDP transfer rate always settled at about 4x the ceil). It manages to throttle TCP traffic just fine. ICMP exceeds the ceil slighlty, but not enough to really worry me (about 3%) I''ve read through the documentation several time...

OT: hardware, IBM 3650 M2 won't power on
I've never seen anything like this. We moved it from the data center yesterday, and this morning I plug it in, and it won't power up. I find a manual for it online, and it says that on plugging it in, wait 3 minutes. The power button will flash 4x/sec, then slow down to once a sec, and at that time you can power it up. Well, it never stops flashing at 4x/sec. I've connected a network cable, wondering if it's in wake-on-lan; I've tried connecting to it via its management port, and *zip*. I'm not going to do, as several folks...

Mediatrix 1204 (4x FXO)
I have successfully implemented 1204 in semi production environment. Just want to share that it works very well, through the firewall (NATed). Unfortunately, it can not register with the server (and authenticate) but otherwise everything is fine. The audio quality is very good. Libvirt NAT-based network 2x-4x faster than Libvirt routed network?
Hi Is it expected behaviour that a libvirt NAT-based network is faster than a libvirt routed network? I would guess that the routed network would be the fastest one in all cases, but I'm seeing the opposite in my setup. On a 100mbit internet connection, the routed network tops at 4mbyte/sec, while the nat-based network goes all the way to 10mbyte/sec. I've spend the last 6 hours on

HowTo Document - Installing Nagios on CentOS 4x/5x
Hi. There's a note on this document (http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Nagios) that it appears to be abandoned and unmaintained. Since I'm working through the document to install Nagios, and taking fairly extensive notes on the process, I would like to bring it up to date. But, since I've not worked on an open source documentation project before, I'm not sure how to proceed. Basically,

small "$" issue with samba on centos 4x [dnk]
Good day..... This is a slightly older issue for me. In the past I had tried to install Samba on a centos 4.0 box, and the useradd tool on Centos 4 would not add the "$" character to the usernames being created. This showed up whenever a domain trust was trying to be established for a computer that was logging into the samba share for the first time. Maybe I messed something

L2ARC in clusters
...it would be nice to be able to have some SSDs as local drives (not on SAN) and when pool switches over to the other node zfs would pick up the node''s local disk drives as L2ARC. To better clarify what I mean lets assume there is a 2-node cluster with 1sx 2540 disk array. Now lets put 4x SSDs in each node (as internal/local drives). Now lets assume one zfs pool would be created on top of a lun exported from 2540. Now 4x local SSDs could be added as L2ARC but because they are not visible on a 2nd node when cluster does failover it should be able to pick up the ssd''s whi...
