1 out of 5 wnt 4sp3 machines acts up
Ok, I'm stumped. I've got what appear to be 5 identical WNT workstation 4
sp3 machines. All have been configured to run off the primary domain
controller (Samba 1.9.19). On one of these ONLY the domain logins
generates a single popup window which says:
Incorrect password or unknown username for \\machinename\C$
and presents them with a username/password dialog box.

Suggested 2.0.x version for PDC?
I tried building the 2.0.x alpha from the CVS site on our new Linux box -
but no joy. It allowed WNT 4sp3 boxes to mount a share using the domain
username/password, but it wouldn't let users log onto the consoles of the
WNT boxes using the same domain username/password combinations. (The log
file from the interaction was not very useful - it was created for each
machine which tried, but had zero b...

File permissions incorrectly assigned
We're running Samba 1.9.18p8 (non-PDC) on solaris 2.5.1. Everything works
well except that file permissions are inconsistently assigned.
Specifically, we are sharing users public_html directories which are
mapped automatically by a policy when they logon a WinNT 4sp3 workstation
so that a users can, theoretically, copy web pages from a diskette or
other server to their web directories using windows instead of teaching
4000 students to use ftp and change permissions on the files. Some of the
gloabal settings and the share definition are below. Despite includin...

NT 4 sp3 audit + samba = total mess
A samba server (2.0.2 linux/intel) is the primary domain server for "SAF".
5 workstations (nt 4sp3 intel) belong to this domain. In order to trash the
event viewer, do the following:
As administrator:
1. select any file (on C:, this has nothing to do with samba file sharing)
2. properties
3. audit
4. add
at this point it tries to look up the users in SAF, fails, and Dr. Watson
pays a vi...

Problem with IIS and Samba 2.04b
Hello,
I recently upgraded from samba 1.9.18 to 2.04b and now have a
strange problem. My setup:
- Linux 2.2.7 with samba 2.04b (not domain controller)
- NT 4sp3 (domain controler) with IIS 4
From the NT I can browse shares on the Linux server without any
problem, everything works as exepected. Some virtual hosts on the IIS
server are configured to use a directory on the Samba server as their
document root. I works fine except for the default index docume...

Changing file permissions from NT
We run a Network of Suns (running Samba) and PC-NT (version 4, sp3)
machines, at work, and find it very annoying to be unable to change the
file permissions of files from NT on the Suns. Is there any way to
change the permissions from NT file explorer or otherwise ?

Samba/printing
Hi all. I'm writing because printing works.... just not very well. I have
the samba server running on a Solaris 2.5.1 600MP box.
Here's the symptons:
Everytime a samba client send print requests to the samba server/print
server the job does print but I get a header and trailer page enclosing
each job. This means everytime a samba client send a print request two
sheets of paper are being
