Question on how to get Samba to use larger pread/write calls.
.../iostat/sar utilities,
we see 100% utilization of the Areca card because the
average wait time is real high and the average
queue length to it is also high......too many
small I/O's.....
This is not the case if I run "fio" or "dd" locally
to/from the Areca's raid using 1-4MByte I/O's.
I see fast I/O...
I do not see any way to increase the size of Samba's
pread/write's in the smb.conf documentation. I
am sure it may be just a matter of getting the source
code and making some changes to allow larger
sized IO's but........and of course I suppose Windows

Libvirt NAT-based network 2x-4x faster than Libvirt routed network?
Hi
Is it expected behaviour that a libvirt NAT-based network is faster
than a libvirt routed network?
I would guess that the routed network would be the fastest one in all
cases, but I'm seeing the opposite in my setup. On a 100mbit internet
connection, the routed network tops at 4mbyte/sec, while the nat-based
network goes all the way to 10mbyte/sec. I've spend the last 6 hours
on trying to figure out the cause of this, changing settings,
reinstalling the system, but the problem persists and I can't find the
cause of it.
It is a clean and fairly simple setup:

debugging really high network usage with no apparent cause
...nameservice (no interactive use or
background programs running). i don't know the tools they are using
well, but they are supposed to be reading in a small source file once
at the beginning of the job and dumping out, all at once at the end of
the process, a video frame in the neighborhood of 4MByte.
thinking something really untoward must be going on under the hood, i
cranked up debugging on smbd, nmbd, and winbindd to 3 with smbcontrol
and the things samba is logging did not change in any way (though
smbcontrol did report that debugging was set to level 3 across the
board for all 3 daemons)...
