RELENG_7 jerky mouse and skipping sound
I just updated to RELENG_7 from 6.2 and I'm running into some really
annoying issues with jerky mouse movement and skipping sound. This
seems to be similar to:
Re: SCHED_4BSD in RELENG_7 disturbs workflow
This happens both with 4BSD and ULE.
I seems to happen when I'm compiling ports and a new cc/bzip2/sh
process fires off (I'm just watching top), I'll get the
skip/freezeup.
This behavior is pretty pronounced, as I'm installing gutenprint right
now....

6.1 responsiveness under heavy (cpu?) load + thread monitoring
Hello,
I have a RELENG_6/AMD64 with an AMD64X2 cpu, 1GB of memory, 512MB swap.
I remarked that when I run 2 simulation program [1], sometimes, one of them
run one or several of its threads [2] very slowly, but sometimes, it doesn't
occur.
I remarked that is doesn't depend on SMP/UP, ULE/4BSD, i386/AMD64.
It seems to occur also with the kernel stress test under the same conditions
(all of them).
In this case, the mouse is blocked, etc. I tested different kernels, and
recorded the output of sysctl vm [3].
I increased vm.swap_async_max but this doesn't change the deal /a priori/.

System hangs up every day
Hello everybody
Unfortunately my problem still doesn't have any solution.
But I have an interesting observation. The gateway freezes very quickly, if torrent client programs are running on workstations.
I assume the cause of the problem consists in many number of TCP/IP connections that torrent client establishes.
Any ideas?
Maybe I can tune somehow a TCP/IP via kernel, sysctl or pf settings?

7.0-Release and 3ware 9550SXU w/BBU - horrible write performance
Hi,
I've got a new server with a 3ware 9550SXU with the
Battery. I am using FreeBSD 7.0-Release (tried both
4BSD and ULE) using AMD64 and the 3ware performance
for writes is just plain horrible. Something is
obviously wrong but I'm not sure what.
I've got a 4 disk RAID 10 array.
According to 3dm2 the cache is on. I even tried
setting The StorSave preference to "Performance" with

7.0-stable: a hung process - scheduler bug?
...- 37126 was
(v)forked to launch a compiler or some such and remains stuck in between
(v)fork and exec somewhere...
The OS is: FreeBSD 7.0-STABLE/amd64 from Sat Jul 26, 2008 and the box is
otherwise perfectly functional. The scheduling-related options are set
as such:
options SCHED_4BSD # 4BSD scheduler
options _KPOSIX_PRIORITY_SCHEDULING # POSIX P1003_1B
real-time extensions
Let me know, what else I can do to help fix this bug -- I'm going to
reboot the machine tonight... Should I switch to SCHED_ULE as a
work-around? Thanks! Yours,

8.2 ->8.3 regression on disk writes
Hello,
using 8.2 the machine runs fine,
using 8.3 or higher, not so much.
In laymans terms,
if I do "too many" writes/time just once, the machine can't do any disk
access for a couple of hours.
As in: What's already running stays running, no crashes or anything,
but as soon as I need to read from disk (login, start program not cached
in memory from previous run),
I'm

"sleeping without queue" ?
Hello!
My attempt to build openoffice.org-3 seems to be hanging. Pressing
Ctrl-T produces:
load: 0.11 cmd: tcsh 79759 [sleeping without queue] 0.00u 0.00s 0% 0k
(tcsh is used by OOo's build-script). What is this "sleeping without
queue" state, and why is process in it for so long?
This is an 4-CPU amd64 system with 4Gb of RAM. Only 16% of the swap is
currently in use and

Ok tried with an updated 7 world / kernel as of this afternoon and with 4BSD
instead of ULE and no difference the machine still locks up with no activity
for anywhere from 20 to 30 seconds.
Here's a snapshot from top under cpu and io modes when the stall has occured

kernel panic on em0/taskq
Hello,
i'm experiencing periodic kernel panics on a server with FreeBSD
7.0-STABLE #0: Tue May 20 19:09:43 CEST 2008.
My big problem is that the system is not performing memory dumping
and/or automatic reoboot,
it just stays there.
Here' console output:
em0: watchdog timeout -- resetting
kernel trap 12 with interrupts disabled
Fatal trap 12: page fault while in kernel mode

from AGP slot on) made things clear, but using both NICs together
(either additional fxp0 or the new em0) remains the systems completely
unstable.
In FreeBSD 5.1-RELEASE-p2 and especially in FreeBSD 5.1-CURRENT this
'gambling' seems to reach its climax. My kernel is built up with
SCHED_4BSD because SCHED_ULE and ADAPTIVE_MUTEXES crashes immediately
the same way as described (running a while, then coredumping or freeze
at the stage after the amr0-RAID showed up in the kernel boot messages,
see the dmesg output below).
I'm not an hardware expert, but all this wierd stuff looks like...

FreeBSD 9.1 stability/robustness?
I need to build up a few servers and routers, and am wondering how
FreeBSD 9.1 is shaping up. Will it be likely to be more stable and
robust than 9.0-RELEASE? Are there issues that will have to wait
until 9.2-RELEASE to be fixed? Opinions welcome.
