-b flag at low sample rates?
As the subject implies, my question is: is it possible to use the -b (or -M) flag at non-44K sample rates? I'm working with an application that is trying to optimize for very small audio filesize. I found that downsampling to 11K and then using q0 gives high compression, but won't seem to drop below 64kbps or so. It seems like the combination of downsampling, then reducing to...

how to improve sound file quality?
We have recorded wav files with 44k, 22k, 16k, 11k and 8k Asterisk does not accept these wav files. I used sox input.wav output.gsm to get them to work. However, the only the 8k file did convert and the quality is poor. How can I improve the quality? bye Ronald

ov_read() reading too little.
...ling the oggvorbis .dlls, and I'm compiling the 1.0beta3 source into my own dll. After opening as "rb" instead of "r", the ov_open() call works. However, ov_read() seems to consistently read less data than I ask for. My buffer is enough to hold two seconds of data, 16 bit 44k mono, that's 176400 bytes. The first call to ov_read() asks for that much but only gets 52,608 bytes. The next call asks for 3,652 bytes but only gets 2048. Subsequent calls ask for more and more, but still only get 2k. Is this normal? If so, it should be documented. Thanks, Spanky --- &...

large Xapian index files
Hello Arjen van der Meijden, on xapian-discuss you mentioned that your Xapian installation has got up to 15 GB database size. Can you tell me about the largest index filesize you got? According to <http://xapian.org/docs/scalability.html>, it seems that the quartz database filesize is limited only by the OS and file system. Can you confirm from your experience that there is no 2GB limit?

IceCast KH - question
Hi there, we use IceCast KH on our webradio, no commercial. We have an issue that we dont know where to look. When listening using WinAmp (but in other players too like JW Player), after 70 or 90 minutes, we realize that the "green square" on top of WinAmp becomes a "red square". About 60 minutes after start, sometimes the "red square" blinks, and then more

Most connections are around 48k I believe. Ross. --- >8 ---- List archives:

...will send a lot faster than the source but is still subject to certain limits like CPU or may be a per-mount limit (limit-rate is set). If it is affecting multiple listeners at different locations at a consistent offset into the stream then the sending rate from the source is suspect. May be a 44k/48k mismatch or a bad clock on the source client. karl.

ACM driver binary 'release'
Dear vorbis developer community, time has come to release a first binary of the ACM driver. I need some feedback of what it does or does not. Please not that this is still a "private" release that is only intended for use by the vorbis developer community, therfore I ask you not to distribute it, you can expect that future version of the driver won't be compatible to this binary.

When are search indexes updated?
I noticed that occasionally searching in my huge archive mailbox can be really slow, so I tried doveadm index on it and it seemed to do a lot of work, which seemed strange given, for example, that dovecot-lda says it keeps Dovecot index files up-to-date. Then I thought, "maybe these are different files than the search indices." If so, that's not entirely clear from the docs and
