R-devel going away
...ou have R-devel installed. The average R user
is a professor or a student, and neither of them are going to
necessarily possess the necessary Linux/Fedora knowledge to be able to
understand why this doesn't work like the R documentation says it
should.
* The size of the R-devel is tiny, about 440K installed. It will not
bloat the main package to absorb the .h files and a .pc file into the
main package. There are no libraries in the R-devel package.
* The primary users of R-devel are R addon packages. They can continue
to BuildRequires: R-devel safely (hooray for Provides/Requires).

...ed the 460GTX with a new 750ti card, and found
two amazing benefits:
1. according to my KillaWatt meter, the computer's power draw dropped from
275-295 watts to 190-195 watts,
2. my PPD total per week has gone from around 200K to more like 400K.
In fact, the last 3 weeks have all been around 440K, some slightly
lower, some a little higher.
The 750ti was a fairly cheap card, at $129.

Very slow on I/O?
I seem to be having a problem with CentOS releases 4.2 and 4.3. On a
fresh install (on two very different pieces of hardware, one Dell
PowerEdge server and one Compaq Presario), the system seems to be
extremely slow. It happens primarily during any hard disk I/O.
It's slow enough that my mouse skips slowly instead of moving
smoothly, and I am unable to type. It seems to freeze for

Folding At Home
Hey Y'all,
I have the Stanford University Folding At Home project running on three
of my machines. I had them all set up so that I could control them all
from my main machine, 192.168.15.101, but some time ago something
changed so that I can no longer connect to the FAH clients on the other
two machines. I figured it wasn't really important so I would look into
it later. Well time has
