RODBC Access
...r R users,
I am trying to connect an Access database.
The code I use is :
channel<-odbcConnectAccess("Base")
table.db<-sqlFetch(Base,"table",colnames=T)
When I look at the table in R, the table imported lacks the first 41 lines, and the column names are the values of the 42nd record.
Any hints ?
I am working on a WinXP pro 5.1 box, R 2.5-0 compiled from source using MINGW and R tools.
I searched R archives through Jonathan Baron site...
Thank you very much for your help

Softphone (with USB headset) for Mac recommendations
Well, I have my 7940 up and running at home, and everything's working
pretty much perfectly. So, it's time to find new things to break :-).
The problem de jour is long-distance calling from work: I can use my
cell phone, but I'm in an inside office on the 42nd floor and it's
really hard to get good reception. So, I'm thinking about running a
softphone on my Mac laptop and using it. The big problem is that my
office is *noisy*--I'm currently sharing it with a pile of Cisco
routers and a number of 1U servers with beefy fans. So, I need a...

The 1,000,000th fibonacci number contains ''42'' 2039 times; that is
almost 30 occurrences more than expected (208988 digits).
N.B. The 42nd fibonacci number does not contain ''1000000'' that is
almost the expected 3.0e-06 times.

FWIW - share name length limit

up anything named share_name or similar with a length associated with it,
so I assume I'm looking in the wrong place or should be looking for
something other than 'share' to find the defined name length.

samba-announce?
Is there an announcements mailing list for samba? If not, could one
please be created?
I want to know when new releases are made, and when security holes are
found, maybe even infrequent benchmark results, but unfortunately I
don't have time to keep up with this list. My mailbox has been
overflowing on a weekly basis, and it's got to stop, so I really need to
decrease the volume coming

all machine password changes fail
None of the Win 2000 workstations on my Samba 3.02 network is able to change
its password. Every machine's event log contains error messages every 30
days like this:
Changing machine account password for account P2450-2$ failed with the
following error:
The stub received bad data.
For the machines that are restarted every day, the error message only
appears once or twice evey 30 days. For

looping variable names
Hi all,
I've been looking for a simple answer to the following problem.
Let's say that I can loop through, say, 100 values that need to be assigned
to, say, the variables var1:var100.
Is there an elegant way to do this?
I have seen one or two similar questions...but they tend to be in more
complicated contexts.
Simple question, hopefully with a simple answer.
Thanks very much!

If there are no other possibilities, then I'll deal with it throught the

Backing up Outlook pst files
Hi - I'm backing up a Windows client which has a number of Outlook
mail archives (pst files) and annoyingly whenever you open Outlook it
updates the modification dates of all pst files - even if you don't
change any of the emails contained in the archive.
What's the best way of backing up these files without having them fill
up my backup disk with mostly identical copies of
