Memory: 2056396k/4194304k available
...erver with 2 opteron 1800 and 8GB ram.
I installed centos 32bit so I should be able to use 4GB. My system on boot recognize 4GB ram but allocate only 2GB.
Extract from dmesg:
Warning only 4GB will be used.
Use a PAE enabled kernel.
3200MB HIGHMEM available.
896MB LOWMEM available.
Memory: 2056396k/4194304k available (2043k kernel code, 39416k reserved, 846k data, 232k init, 1179584k highmem)
Why it suggest me to "Use a PAE enabled kernel."?
Thanks.
Giuliano.

kvm guest ram
...How much memory on the Host is necessary on the kvm host for this "4g"
machine in the worst case (I try to not overcommit for now). I want to
avoid the situation that this "4g" machine requires "5g".
A 4gb 32 bit machine is reporting expected values
Memory: 3102712k/4194304k available (2190k kernel code, 41592k reserved,
911k data, 228k init, 2228160k highmem)
All of the above lead to the following more generic question:
How many percent of the Host RAM may I safely give to guests (without
overcommiting) ?
