spatial-time smoothing
Hi all, I'm looking for to interpolate hourly temperature date collected from more than 140 automatic weather station (irregularly spaced) using 4 independent variable: 1-2) geografic coordinates (x,y) (from DEM - 40m) 3) altitude (z) (from DEM - 40m) 4) solar radiation (from a model calculated with grass: r.sun) In addition, I would like to use also "time" variable (e.g.: hours). So this will be not only a spatial model, but rather a time-space interpolation in order to calculate the estimated temper...

Parsing large XML documents in R - how to optimize the speed?
Hello everyone, I would like to parse very large xml files from MS/MS experiments and create R objects from their content. (By very large, I mean going up to 5-10Gb, although I am using a 'small' 40M file to test my code.) My first attempt at parsing the 40M file, using the XML package, took more than 2200 seconds and left me quite disappointed. I managed to cut that down to around 40 seconds by: -using the 'useInternalNodes' option of the XML package when parsing the xml tree;...

LLVM multithreading support
Hi all, I was looking at the profile for a tool I’m working on, and noticed that it is spending 10% of its time doing locking related stuff. The structure of the tool is that it reading in a ton of stuff (e.g. one moderate example I’m working with is 40M of input) into MLIR, then uses its multithreaded pass manager to do transformations. As it happens, the structure of this is that the parsing pass is single threaded, because it is parsing through a linear file (the parser is simple and fast, so this is bound by IR construction). This means that...

Creating vegetation distance groups from one column
Hi R listers, I am trying to group distances of nests to the vegetation into classes that are define by (0-5m, 6-10m, 11-15m, 16-20m, 21-25m, 26-30m, 31-35m, 36-40m, 41-45m, 46-50m, 51-55m, 56-60m). Each row is a nest and all the distances to the vegetation is in a column. In plyr, I have tried - below script but I think I am going about this the wrong way and am not successful. #Veg index star = resp Veg.index <- function(values, weights=c(0, 5, 10, 15...

[LLVMdev] Missing some passes in llvm-ld
...llvm-ld: Unknown command line argument '-reassociate. Try: 'opt/bin/llvm-ld -help' llvm-ld definitely linked with scalaropts, and RegisterPass<ReassociatePass> is in the library. Running with these passes with opt definitely work, but it'll take some time as my .bc is big (~40M). I'll appreciate any ideas how to make llvm-ld run these passes. Thanks. Cheers, Haohui

Design Survplot performance
...this with cph from Design takes about 3 hours. I have created the fit with x=T, y=T to save the model data. I want to validate the PH assumption by calling survplot(fit, gender=NA, logt=TRUE, loglog=TRUE) for many of the factors (here gender is one column name). Just creating this one plot takes 40m. I'd be happy to sample from the fitted model to create these tests, or figure out another way to check assumptions in the model. Has anyone done something similar, or have other suggestions for tests that scale better? thanks. [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Samba 3 performance issue
Hi all, I have a Samba 3 Linux server in a data centre where has 100M bandwidth to Internet. My Samba clients are all in remote office, each office has 40M bandwidth to Internet. The ping time from office to data centre is about 10ms to 15ms. Some of the samba clients try to play some mpeg 4 movies directly from samba server, but the movie can not be played smooth. The mpeg 4 movie is about 2 to 4M bit rate. Then I tested the transfer rate from da...

limit source bitrate
Hi guys , I'm trying to limit the bitrate of a source client. I'm using the icecast 2.3.1 and the 2.3.2 , but in the documentation , in particular in the limit section I don't see nothing. So I'm asking to you : There is a way to limit to a max bitrate , the bitrate that a client can use for a particular mountpoint ? Big thanks for the help Goodbye Pierpaolo

Parallel Scan of Large File

Furthermore, can I specify the tasks for each child? i.e. I'm working on a Linux box with 8 cores and would like to scan in 8M records at time (all 8 cores scan 1M records at a time) from a file with 40M records total. file <- file("data.txt","r") child <- foreach(i = icount(40)) %dopar% { scan(file,what = "character",sep = "\n",skip = 0,nlines = 1e6) } Thus, each child would have a different skip argument. child[[1]]: skip = 0, child[[2]]: skip =...

Multipathing with Sun 7310

Any hints for a reasonable configuration? Unfortunately the Sun 7310 is rather new, so almost nothing shows up on google... even less for RHEL/CentOS :-( regards from Berlin Jens [root at dev-db1 tmp]# multipath -ll sdaa: checker msg is "readsector0 checker r...
