resize2fs
Hi All:
I am trying to resize a centos (5.2) VM drive. I use VMware and I have
increased the size of the drive by 40G. I am running resize2fs on
/dev/sdb1 (which is my root partition) but when I do I get this error:
[root at centos ~]# resize2fs /dev/sdb1 120G
resize2fs 1.39 (29-May-2006)
The containing partition (or device) is only 19970795 (4k) blocks.
You requested a new size of 31457280 blocks.

questions regarding 40G Samba Server
Hi,
we expect a growth in bigger file transfers (files n*10 GB up to
multiple 100GB) on a regular base from a smaller number of users
combined with the "normal" office use with word files, mail profiles etc
from about 500 users.
We plan a new Fileserver/Storage Head with 40Gb NICs client and storage
side.
What would be regarding to samba be of more importance: multiple Cores
or more MHz per core?
Any suggestions? Feedback? Thanks! and regards . Götz

Oh, "my" cifs as a protocol is multi-threaded. It's part of the Samba
implementation that is single threaded. However, for large file I/O
Samba is multi-threaded.

The VF?s performance is >1Mpps, but the PF?s performance is only 500Kpps

why are qemu-img and vhd-util created files incompatible?
I was wondering if someone can shed some light on why vhd files
created with qemu-img don''t really work right with vhd-util and
consequentially blktap in general. To validate the incompatiblity its
simple enough to do
qemu-img create -f vpc test.vhd 40g
vhd-util snapshot -n child.vhd -p test.vhd
Which will show the below and then the headers don''t display the BATMAP summary:
primary footer invalid: creation time in future
test.vhd appears invalid; dumping metadata
Failed to open test.vhd: -22
Additionally "vhd-util snapshot -n chi...

Re: [PATCH virt-v2v] v2v: Allow temporary directory to be set on a global basis.
...used for
the v2vovl files.
I've attached the exact mount details at the end of this email.
My conclusion is that we could do one of two things:
Either:
(1) Easiest solution is simply not mount anything under /var/tmp, and
let it be local storage. Assuming all these containers are getting ~40G
of local storage, that's more than enough for virt-v2v to run and
store the appliance and overlays. Everything should just work once
you remove that /var/tmp mountpoint and leave it as local storage.
ie these lines are removed:
- mountPath: /var/tmp
name: v2v-conversion-temp

Ghost files in OCFS2 filesystem
Hi,
I have encountered an issue on an Oracle RAC cluster using ocfs2, OS is RH Linux 5.3.
One of the ocfs2 filesystems appears to be 97% full, yet when I look at the files in there they only equal about 13gig (filesystems is 40gig in size).
I have seen this sort of thing in HP-UX but that involved a process who's output file was deleted but the process hadn't been stopped properly, once we killed the offending process the space was released, but I can't seem to find any process on this Linux server that is usi...

R memory size increases
O/S : Solaris 9
R version : 2.2.1
I was getting out of memory errors from R when running a large job, so
I've switched to a larger machine with 40G shared memory. I issue the
following command when starting R to increase memory available to R:
R --save --min-vsize=4G --min-nsize=4G
When reading in a file, R responds with "could not allocate vector of
size 146Kb." So I'm clearly using the command incorrectly. Does anyone

Purging a large folder... anything I need to be careful of?
I've got a large message folder (about 40G in 'cur') that I need to
empty to a more reasonable size. Oddly, my Thunderbird e-mail client
only sees about 2.4G of that, and has "looped" a few times. What I mean
is, I thought someone was cleaning the folder out, but Thunderbird
apparently was actually just looping back...

(no subject)
Hi,
I?ve used the libvirt and sheepdog, they are so great!
But I have one question about libvirt and sheepdog.
As we know, I can use this command to create a sheepdog image,
#qemu-img create ?f raw sheepdog:fedora15.img 40G
but how can I create a pool and volume for sheepdog with the xml of libvirt ?

RSync and large amounts of data
...200 accounts a few days before the server switchover. Every testing I've
done shows that it copies over new/modified files; but it fails to delete
directories and files which are no longer on the master.
Do you have any clue what could be up?
I've been testing our web server (only about 40G of data) compared to the
main file server and for 40G of data everything works the way it should;
but clearly not for about 220G.
On the main server rsync takes about 300M - (there are 4 CPUs and 4G) so
it's not starved for ram and no users are allowed on the system and it's
strictly a Sam...
