Variance of random effects: survreg()
I have the following questions about the variance of the random effects in the survreg() function in the survival package: 1) How can I extract the variance of the random effects after fitting a model? For example: set.seed(1007) x <- runif(100) m <- rnorm(10, mean = 1, sd =2) mu <- rep(m, rep(10,10)) test1 <- data.frame(Time = qsurvreg(x, mean = mu, scale= 0.5, distribution =

struggling to plot subgroups
Hi Folks, I have data that looks like this: freq gender xBar 1000 m 2.32 1000 f 3.22 2000 m 4.32 2000 f 4.53 3000 m 3.21 3000 f 3.44 4000 m 4.11 4000 f 3.99 I want to plot two lines (with symbols) for the two groups "m" and "f". I have tried the following: plot(xBar[gender=="m"]~freq[gender=="f"]) followed by

A variation on the bar plot
Hi all, I cannot think of the technical name of this plot, but I want to create a plot with the data below that looks like two back-to-back horizontal bar plots. Ideally, there would be a vertical line in the center of the plot at zero, and on the right hand side would be 4 bars representing the values for 2007, and on the left side of the vertical line would be the corresponding values for 2005.

How does .Fortran "dqrls" work?
Hi, all. I want to write some functions like glm() so i studied it. In glm.fit(), it calls a fortran subroutine named "dqrfit" to compute least squares solutions to the system x * b = y To learn how "dqrfit" works, I just follow how glm() calls "dqrfit" by my own example, my codes are given below: > qr <- >

nmbd load problem
Hi, I'm running Samba 3.0 on a Solaris 9 server. If you look at the output of top you'll see that that nmbd process is killing this machine: I've restarted Samba numerous times, and each time the load goes down immediately and when I restart it the load goes up and nmbd starts to take up all the processor time. load averages: 21.18, 19.61, 24.65 11:04:20 210 processes: 187

libvirt behind stunnel4
Hi, I'm trying this setup where an stunnel4 (listening for clients on port 16514) connects to an unencrypted libvirt backend (on port 16509). When I point the virsh client to stunnel4 it hangs. Looking via tshark: 1. virsh completes ssl handshake with stunnel4 2. stunnel4 completes tcp handshake with libvirt. and that's all. When connecting virsh client directly to libvirt (this time

Plotting with R: setting the y axis
I have a series of numbers I'm wanting to plot. They come from a nanodrop machine, which graphs with a specific x and y indices. X goes from 220nm to 350nm, which I can set. But the y axis should go from -5 to 65, but I'm finding it impossible to hardcode that. I've looked. I've typed ?plot at the R prompt. Google has not been my friend. _R Graphics_, if it holds the key, has not

[GlobalISel][AArch64] Toward flipping the switch for O0: Please give it a try!
Thanks Kristof. Sounds like we'll need to investigate though I'd say it is not blocking the switch. At this point I think everybody is on board to flip the switch. @Eric, how does that sound to you? [GlobalISel][AArch64] Toward flipping the switch for O0: Please give it a try!
Hi all, I added a buildbot [1] running the test-suite with -O0 -global-isel. It runs into the same 2 timeouts that I reported previously on this thread (paq8p and scimark2). It would be nice to make it green before flipping the switch. At the moment, it lives in an internal buildmaster that I've setup for this purpose. If we fix it and it proves to be stable for a week or two, I'll move

help for segmented package
Hi, I am trying to find m breakpoints of a linear regression model. I used the segmented package. It works fine for small number of predicators and breakpoints.(3 r.v. 3 points). However, my model has 14 variables it even would not work even for just one breakpoints!. The error message is always estimated breakpoints are out of range. Since my problem is time related problem. So I

Análisis de componentes principales con ade4 y FactoMineR
Efectivamente. Puedes cambiar el signo de todos los valores de la segunda componente, por ejemplo al hacer un gráfico de dispersión. No creo que se pueda hacer directamente en la función. Puzzled at lm() and time-series
I tried toy problems and there doesn't seem to be a basic problem between lm() and ts objects: X = data.frame(x=c(1,2,7,9), y=c(7,2,3,1)) lm(y ~ x, X) X <- lapply(X, function(x) ts(x, frequency=12, start=c(1994,7))) lm(y ~ x, X) and this works fine - whether you do an lm() before or after making ts objects, it's okay. But I have a situation where things aren't okay.

importing explicitly declared missing values in read.spss (foreign)
There is a problem when importing an spss-file containing explicitly declared missing values in R using the read.spss function from the foreign package. I'm not sure these problems are the same in every version of spss, I am using the latest version 16.0.2. I included http://www.nabble.com/file/p18776776/missingdata.sav missingdata.sav and
