Integration in R
Dear all, It has been ages since I studied integration in college. Right now I try to recover all this kind of knowledge and then try to understand how integration works. Thus I am doing some first 'experiments' and I would like to request your help and comments. I have the function: p2<-function(x){0.5*(3*x^2-1)} # I found the square of p2 by using some pencil and

optimize in very small values
I hope you will forgive me this simple question on titration. I'm trying to find very small values from the algorithm below, which I believe is correctly formatted, and the constants are also correct. When SID goes over ATOT, fitted vales are much too low compared to the literature. I guess I must be using optimize in a wrong way but cannot find out how to improve it. I'm on windows, R

R and Excel disagreement - Goal Seek versus uniroot
Dear friends - occurring in Windows R2.6.2 I am modeling physical chemistry in collaboration with a friend who has preferred working in Excel. I used uniroot, and find a solution to a two buffer problem in acid-base chemistry which I believe is physiologically sensible. Using "goal seek" in Excel my friend found another plausible root, quite close to zero, and a plot of the function

Problem with Integrate for NEF-HS distribution
I need to calcuate the cumulative probability for the Natural Exponential Family - Hyperbolic secant distribution with a parameter theta between -pi/2 and pi/2. The integration should be between 0 and 1 as it is a probability. The function "integrate" works fine when the absolute value of theta is not too large. That is, the NEF-HS distribution is not too skewed. However, once the

Gauss-Laguerre using statmod
I believe this may be more related to analysis than it is to R, per se. Suppose I have the following function that I wish to integrate: ff <- function(x) pnorm((x - m)/sigma) * dnorm(x, observed, sigma) Then, given the parameters: mu <- 300 sigma <- 50 m <- 250 target <- 200 sigma_i <- 50 I can use the function integrate as: > integrate(ff, lower= -Inf, upper=target)

Need to help to get value for bigger calculation
Hello R-Experts, I want to calculate values like 15^200 or 17^300 in R. In normal case it can calculate the small values of b (a^b). I have fixed width = 10000 and digits = 22 but still answers are Inf. How to deal the cases like these? Thanks in advance. Regards, rehena [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

accuracy of pt for x close to 0
Hello, I have been playing around with the statistical distributions in R, and overall I think the accuracy is very good. However, it seems that for the Student's t distribution, the CDF loses accuracy when evaluated at values close to zero. For instance, I did the following in R ---------------------------------- df<-seq(1,100,by=1)

Surprising result from integrate
Hi all, sorry for this extensive question, but I think that I'm missing something fundamental. I stepped into a surprising result with the integrate function and I would be glad if someone could put some light onto this. I try to integrate over an s-shaped growth-function. The results from this calculation seem to be correct for small values of t. Just for fun I tried some large values and
