ssh and root on 4.10 = password discovery (maybe)
Hello. I'm not 100% sure if this is a configuration error on my side or
a 'bad idea' on sshd/FreeBSD sides.
A remote root ssh connection to a FreeBSD 4.10 server (with no remote
root access) will allow you to 'work out' the root password. However, if
you try the same against 5.2.1 FreeBSD, you have little chance. The
following are pretty clear examples.
If this is a config

CTDB Samba 4.10 example?
Hello,
from SAMBA 4.9/4.10 there was a big change regarding CTDB. Does anyone
have an example configuration, how to configure a CTDB cluster from
version 4.10?
Is there someone who run CTDB with SAMBA 4.10?
Best regards

PXELINUX 4.10-pre*
So far I tested PXELINUX from 4.10-pre12, 4.10-pre9 and 4.10-pre6.
The first two take a long time with a TFTP file not found and
eventually find my file but error out (presumably to kaboom). The
last takes a long time, does a lot of retransmitted packets (didn't
watch the first two), then eventually loads the file but continues
this behavior for TFTP and HTTP transfers. This is on VMware

chkrootkit and 4.10-prerelease issues?
Has anyone else seen chkrootkit (version 0.43) on 4.10-prerelease or
later report chfn, chsh, and date as infected?
I built world yesterday, and my nightly chkrootkit reports this on run.
I've replaced the binaries with their 4.9 equivalents, and things don't
report as infected. I upgrade the 4.9 machine to 4.10, and chkrootkit
reports them as infected again.
Is this similar to the

pxelinux 4.10 pre17 http:// on VMware works now
Hi,
I finally managed to test pxelinux 4.10 pre17 in our VMware environment and
can report that HTTP booting seems to work reliably now. Downloads are
fairly fast.
As a side note, rosh "ls" and "pwd" commands now work as expected with a
HTTP TFTP prefix, cool!
I'll leave it in production use now and report about any further issues.
Can you already tell when a 4.10

yes, I read

Are there any particular things to consider when upgrading from 4.9.x to
4.10.x ?
Talking of 2 DCs and 2 DMs here, debian-based.
I assume it's better to only do the step to 4.10.x first and not to 4.11.x ?
At first the DMs, then one DC ... ?

Is there any way to know if userland is patched?
Dear folks,
I'm recently investigating large scale deployment and upgrading FreeBSD
RELEASE. It's our tradition to bump "RELEASE-pN" after a security patch
is applied, however, it seems that there is less method to determine
whether the userland is patched, which is somewhat important for large
site managements.
So is "uname -sr" the only way to differencate the

tftp with pxelinux.0 from syslinux 4.10-pre17
Hello everybody,
setting up a netboot server for a really huge network I decided to go with
what will be syslinux 4.10 to get support for http transfers.
The setup works on my notebook, booting another notebook directly connected.
However it fails with a more complex setup: A virtual machine on the
second notebook bridged to the ethernet device does not boot, systems from
other networks with a

Use 4.10 backup in 4.9.4
I'd like to share the results of a little experiment I did yesterday.
On an Arch Linux box on which in December I tried, and failed, to upgrade
from 4.7.4. to 4.9.4 and then had to revert back to 4.7.4, yesterday I did
the upgrade to the new 4.10 release. This time, everything worked, I had no
errors whatsoever. So, I then made a backup of the new installation, in 3
different ways: Online

Samba 4.10 AD DS test lab with DNS
Hi All,
I would like to do a test lab using SAMBA 4.10 AD DS with BIND DLZ. I
would like to use a linux distro and one that I can use Linux packages. I
do not want to compile from source and would like the samba and bind to be
packages that update with the OS.
It seems that SAMBA 4.10 is "new" so that some distros are behind and
running 4.8.
What are my options?
Is SAMBA installed

4.9.x -> 4.10.x : any major things to consider?
Hai Stefan,
Yes, i do recommend the setup from 4.9 to 4.10 first.
If you plan is to upgrade to buster.
1) on stretch, update samba to 4.10
2) Change apt sources do buster, * your now also able to add buster-samba411 of my repo.
3) apt-get dist upgrade --autoremove --purge
And you able to upgrade to buster and samba 4.11.
Do note, i should be possible to to it also from 4.9 to 4.11, but

Xen 4.10 for Debian experimental
Hi Ian,
can you please review and sponsor the upload of a first Xen 4.10 package
to experimental?
The work which has been done to arrive at this point from the previous
4.8 packages is visible at:
https://salsa.debian.org/xen-team/debian-xen/commits/master
The only commit which is not in master yet is the actual package release:

Xen 4.10 for Debian unstable
Hi Ian,
after our conversation on IRC in #debian-xen today, I updated the
packaging to the latest 4.10-stable commit (since there's no 4.10.1
release yet) and smoke-tested the package on a testing/unstable dom0
running a PVHv2 guest.
Can you please review and sponsor the upload of a first Xen 4.10 package
to Debian unstable?

Hi Louis,
I see that you already offer 4.10 in your repo for Stretch. Would be great if you could make it available for Bionic, too.
Thanks.

Use 4.10 backup in 4.9.4
Hi Viktor,
In 4.10.0, the fix for https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13760
will take effect when the samba process first starts. In theory, if you
take a backup after this, that backup database should no longer have bug
13760 in it.
It seems like what you're seeing might be a different problem. If
samba_dnsupdate isn't working, then DNS may well not work. And if DNS
isn't

What are the difference between 4.05 pre and 4.10 pre?
I've noticed the 14 pre versions of 4.10, but then there is now a

Please test 4.10-pre17
Especially you who are doing large-scale network booting, please try out
4.10-pre17 *and report the results*. I'm hoping with Gene Cumm's fixes
that we have can promote this to a full release shortly, but I really
need test reports -- good or bad.

samba-tool user syncpasswords 4.10 bug
Hi,
When I use "samba-tool user syncpasswords" in Samba 4.10.11 (and earlier
version of 4.10), I get a python exception coming from a place in
/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/samba/netcmd/user.py
I could fix it with this patch:
