FSCK?
An EXT3 filesystem technically isn't supposed to require an fsck,
correct? Well, as per my last email re: EXT3 Crash?! I ran an fsck on a
couple of my LVMs. It said they were clean, but then I decided to be
100% sure and force an fsck. Error after Error after Error after Error.
I wound up losing almost half the data on my LVM due to all the errors.
What's the real deal? Am I doing

a samba server that is using winbind joined to a windows domain to another
box. What samba or winbind files do I need so that this will resolve to

Migration samba 3 to 4
Hello,
I am working on the migration of our samba 3.5 domain controller (redhat
5.7) with ldap backend to samba 4.5 on a new server (debian 9.5).
On the new server I transferred the smb.conf and all the contents of the
/var/lib/samba folder to a temporary folder /root/samba3.
To start the migration I use the command:
# samba-tool domain samba3upgrade --dbdir =/root/samba3/ --realm =

passdb.tdb shows no users in new 4.3.11-ubuntu install?
...dhdurgee as expected.
Is the passdb compatible between the two? Can I simply copy the 3.6.25
version over the 4.3.11 one? Shouldn't the passdb have been initialized
properly when samba was installed? Is there an initialization utility
to run to do so? The 3.6.25 version of passdb.tdb is 36864 bytes while
the 4.3.11 version is 421888 bytes respectively.

ls -ld is showing the size of the actual directory, NOT the size of the
files stored within and under it.
du -s adds up the size on disk of all the stuff IN the directory.
note also that size on disk even for a single fil...
