SIP devices with packet loss tolerance
...and in each case upstream was around 220-235k (a little off the "official speed" but not bad). Certainly way more than the ~35kbps necessary for a g729 call, even with packet overheads.
We've also tested the connections with a constant ping, and latency for nearly all of them is sub-35ms.
So, that leads me towards packet loss as the only thing left. Generally speaking, these connections are giving between 1 and 4% packet loss.
Therefore, 3 questions:
1) is this level of packet loss likely to have the effect we're seeing?
2) If so, are there any phones people have tried with...

How to set the jitter buffer
...roperly what the three settings actually really do or a
typical range of settings for them.
I do roughly understand how a jitter buffer is supposed to work.
But can it help against echos heard on the lines or just the 'clicks' -
are they jitter?
Usually my cross-IAX latency is under about 35ms (commonly only 5-6ms) and
SIP latency (I know this doesn't really matter as there's no buffer for
SIP) as recorded by 'sip show peers' as about 70ms (but in reality ping I
think is about half this).
My current setup is :
SIP and IAX clients --> my * --> providers via IAX (on...

browselist showing up late
...1:73(72) ack 1 win
64000 (DF) [tos 0xd]
... etc.
... and there is the browselist.
Does anyone got a clue? Is this due to the ping times? (This behaviour
first showed up after a software upgrade in our ADSL modems, which
introduced latencies of 70ms and more. Some weeks ago these were cut down
to 35ms and browsing seems to work slightly better).

[Patch] Fix delay on imao-append
...<message>

...
The delay of about 35ms between packet 4 and its ACK in packet 5 causes
copies from client to server to be extremely slow. (Client and server on
same 100Mb LAN, same result if client and server are on same host)
The attached patch makes dovecot send the whole answer in a single
packet, thus not triggering the delay issue...

Using timezone javascript to set Time.zone
I''ve got a javascript that provides me with the timezone for the
client. I want to use this to set Time.zone so that all my times
stored in the database are displayed in the timezone for the client.
So really simplistically
var timezone = jstz.determine_timezone().timezone
Time.zone = timezone.olson_tz
obviously this can''t be done. I''ve taken a look on the web and can
