substring if value starts with a character
Hello togehter,
i have a litte problem to convert a data.frame. My data.frame looks like
this one
A
1 R5000
2 R4800
3 R4700
4 3500
5 3800
I need now a command, which outputs all the numbers, without the character
in front.
The solution look like this one:
A
1 5000
2 4800
3 4700
4 3500
5 3800
Thanks.
Best regards. Mat

Using CentOS 4.4 on very old Dell Inspiron 3500 laptop; would like suggestions regarding using KDE/GNOME in low RAM and low disk situation
Hi;
I'm new to the CentOS list and I only have experience with CentOS 4.3/4.4
on desktops. I just installed CentOS 4.4 on a very old Dell Inspiron 3500
laptop. I choose the desktop option and then deleted the kde and gnome
packages because I have only 192mb RAM and 4gb disk (total). I'd like
suggestions on how to maximize the effective usage of the laptop with CentOS
4.4...as a minimum I want to do secure wireless web browsing. If KDE or

htb2 -> htb3 problems
Hello!
I need to switch from htb2 to htb3, because of speed issues (for me,
htb2 is unable to handle more then 100mbit duplex with ~550 classes),
kernel profiling shows htb_dequeue_prio at 1st place with 3x isolation.
So, I''ve moved from 2.4.19 to 2.4.25 kernel (hi-pac for classification/marking
and htb3 for queueing), and traffic rate drop from 100 to 20mbit.
What can be wrong? The

Linux driver for HP Laserjet 3500 printer - yum won't install
I'm trying to install the linux driver for an HP Colour Laserjet 3500 in
CentOS 5. I've installed the kde.repo (with appropriate priorities set
up), but when I try yum install pxljr-1.1-1.i386.rpm, yum says 'nothing
to do' - is this because the priority protection won't let it install
from the kde repo?
The alternative approach seems to be to use yum...

Installing HP Color Laserjet 3500 printer in CentOS 5
...'m trying to set up the printer, connected to the network via a
JetDirect printer server at location 192.168.0.200. Trouble is, I'm
really not sure about all the settings in Printer Configuration -
specifically, what should the Device URI be - at the moment, it says
socket://HPColourLaserjet3500:9100, but I'm not sure if this is correct,
but it doesn't seem to be because it won't print a test page.
Any help much appreciated,
Thanks,
Andy

Subset of Data
Hi Arun,
I have a question about choosing a subset of data.
I have a matrix of 5000 in 3500.
I want to choose specific variables such as proc1 to proc1000 and Lab1 to Lab1600 and put it into a new matrix to run some correlation analysis.
Since I have 3500 variables, I don't know from what column my lab or procedures start.
I really appreciate your help.
Thanks.

Data handling/optimum glm method.
...anything greater than a 5-way saturated model for my data.
My first question: is the best way to fit a generalised linear model in R to fit the saturated model and extract the significant terms only, or to start at the null model and to work up to the optimum one?
I am importing a csv file with 3500 rows and 27 columns (3500x27 matrix).
My second question: is there anyway to increase the memory I have so R can cope with more analysis?
I can send my code if it would help to answer the question.
Kind regards,
AJC

Changing MaxNWts with the mi() function (error message)
..., model: mi.categorical
Error in nnet.default(X, Y, w, mask = mask, size = 0, skip = TRUE,
softmax = TRUE, :
too many (3432) weights
The error message indicates that there are too many weights (3432). I
know you can adjust the maximum weights with the mi.categorical()
function (i.e., MaxNWts= 3500), but I do not see a way to do this with
the mi() function. I found an R-help posting from two years ago with
some instruction on how to change the max weights in mi(), but I can't
seem to get it to work. The following is a link to the post:

Hi
I'm hosting a forum (phpbb) with more than 3500 users with centos 4.3.
The forum admins would like to send an email to its (3500) users. I
configured phpbb to use smtp (postfix-2.1.5-4.2.RHEL4.mysql.centos4) to
send the email.
I raised the max destination limit from 1000 to 5000, and made a test.
Here the disaster began:
