Error Compiling e1071
Dear all, I am trying to compile the package e1071 (version 1.3-11) with R CMD INSTALL. I tried with R 1.7.0 on Redhat Linux 2.4.7-10 and R 1.6.2 on Linux 2.4.9-34smp but keep getting the same error message during configure : WARNING: g++ 2.96 cannot reliably be used with this package. Please use a different compiler. Can anyone help me with this or at least point me in the right direction ? Thank you very much. Regards, Adai.

Disk Space Problems with Rsync.
I have a problem with rsync causing a filesystem to think that it is 100% used when actually it isn't. A quick reboot will cause the filesystem to go to about 70%-75% used. Below is the script that I am executing. I am using Red Hat Linux release 7.1 (Seawolf) Kernel 2.4.9-34smp on a 2-processor i686. Does anyone have any idea on what causes this and how to fix this? #!/bin/bash export RSYNC_RSH="ssh" rsync -alz --delete --stats server:/u01/home/piuser/ /u01/home/piuser/ rsync -alz --delete --stats server:/u01/public/ /u01/public/ rsync -alz --delete --stats...

Slow backup and kernel upgrade issue.
...Partitions are formatted as ext3. I have noticed that the backup is up to 10 times slower than similar systems we have using ext2 instead of ext3. I am not utilizing any of the journaling capabilities of the filesystem. In addition, I have tried to upgrade the kernel from 2.4.7-10smp to 2.4.9-34smp. I have tried using RHN and building one manually. In each case, the machine hangs after the "Uncompressing linux..." message comes up on the console. I have tried booting with 2.4.9-34 kernel with similar results. Disk Config: [root@la_app2 opt]# df -h Filesystem Size Us...

Binary filenames in smbstatus output? (Samba 2.2.5)
...like this before? We are currently having problems with our Samba server coming up telling a lot of our users that Word files "are locked for editing." and will only let users open them Read Only. We are running Samba 2.2.5 from standard RedHat 7.2 RPMS, on i386 RedHat 7.2, Kernel 2.4.9-34smp. Im putting this to the list as a symptom to see if anyone has ever seen similar behavior. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. The server is in production and so we are a little apprehensive of changing versions unless we can be at least fairly certain the change will be painless and...
