Xen pae and 32G memory
Hello, I have a problem with a new install of xen. I work on a Dell poweredge 2950, bi xeon Quadcore ang 32G of memory. The domain0 run on a gentoo 32 Bits. I use xen 3.1.2 with pae xen kernel : 2.6.20 So when i boot on a normal kernel, i see all of my memory. But when i boot on the xen kernel, i have only 15G memory available. ...the archives and could not find an exact answer to my question below. I'm trying to generate very large sparse matrices (< 1% non-zero entries per row). I have a sparse matrix function below which works well until the row/col count exceeds 10,000. This is being run on a machine with 32G memory: sparse_matrix <- function(dims, rnd,p) { ptm <- proc.time() x <- round(rnorm(dims*dims),rnd) x[((abs(x) - p) < 0)] <- 0 y <- matrix(x,nrow=dims, ncol=dims) proc.time() - ptm } When trying to generate the matrix around 20,000 row...

Only 2.5G of RAM available then syslinux64.efi boots 32-bit linux 686-pae
Hello, I'm booting linux-3.16-686-pae kernel (32-bit) via syslinux.efi 64-bit version. After boot linux sees only 2.5G of RAM while system has 32G installed. If I boot the same kernel with GRUB64 efi instead of syslinux then amount of RAM available to linux is 32G. Is this a bug or I'm missing something? syslinux.cfg: label live-686-pae menu label Linux (686-pae) menu default linux /live/vmlinuz initrd...

strict memory
...our university. We have several student's processes that take up too much memory. Our system have 64G of RAM and some processes take close to 32-48G of RAM. This is causing many problems for others. I was wondering if there is a way to restrict memory usage per process? If the process goes over 32G simply kill it. Any thoughts or ideas? TIA

Working with large matrix
Dear All, I have large matrix (46000 x 11250). I would like to do the linear regression for each row. I wrote a simple function that has lm() and used apply(mat,1,func). The issue is that it takes ages to load the file and also to finish the lm. I am using LINUX 64 bit with 32G mem. Is there an elegant and fast way of completing this task? Thanks in advance. Kind regards, Ezhil

[LLVMdev] Stuck on linking llc on ARM
Hi all, I have been stuck on compiling LLVM/Clang (r163485) on pandaboard which has following configuration, - Ubuntu 11.04 + 1G Mem + 1G Swap + 32G SD card - GCC 4.5.2 - GNU gold (GNU Binutils for Ubuntu 2.21.0.20110327) 1.11 The compiling process stucks on linking llc, I am pretty surprised on this. Anyone has similar issue or any idea? Thanks! Regards, chenwj -- Wei-Ren Chen (陳韋任) Computer Systems Lab, Institute of Information Scienc...

LVM mirror database to ramdisk
I'm still running CentOS 5 with Xen. We recently replaced a virtual host system board with an Intel S1400FP4, so the host went from a 4 core Xeon with 32G RAM to a 6 core Xeon with 48G RAM, max 96G. The drives are SSD. I was recently asked to move an InterBase server from Windows 7 to Windows Server. The database is 30G. I'm speculating that if I put the database on a 35G virtual disk and mirror it to a 35G RAM disk, the speed of database...

Hi all I downloaded the RPI3 image: CentOS-Userland-7-armv7hl-Minimal-1603-RaspberryPi3.img.xz how do I resize the root FS? My Sd card is 32G and I am only using 2G of that. also I thought the RPI3 as was 64 bit. When I downloaded the aarch64.img and tried that it did not boot. I thought the RPI3 supported this image. perhaps not. Thannks, Jerry

Windows Xen VM's have high guest CPU usage and poor performance
...the machine and dom0's cpu usage as reported by xm top is 622%. It seems like Xen is just performing poorly while handling these Windows VMs. Any suggestions? I have Windows VM's on other hardware (typically PowerEdge R905s and R710s and they seem ok). This 2950 is a decent machine.. 32G RAM, 2x Xeon E5405 (quad core) at 2ghz. And I'm only allocating 1 CPU and 768MB RAM for each VM. Sample config: name = "win01n" maxmem = 768 memory = 768 vcpus = 1 builder = "hvm" kernel = "/usr/lib/xen/boot/hvmloader" boot = "c" pae = 1 acpi = 1 apic...

modestly priced laptop for C7
...traveling. Everything works with CentOS Linux 7 > (wifi, graphics, volume buttons, touchpad, etc) Johnny: how hard is it to replace RAM or SSD? and battery, too, when that time comes. 'cause I'd want to do like you and definitely upgrade it right away, cause that 2gig RAM and abysmal 32G storage is pathetic. and I'm going to guess that 1.6 Ghz processor is similar to the 1.6b Ghz Atom I now have, but hopefully less canine-like. I'd be interested in the 14 inch model except it has the same wimpy specs. so, again how much hassle (and cost) is involved in upgrading like you...
