CentOS 4 Samba - Excel 2002/2003 bug
...e else. This is a know issue, fixed on samba 3.0.11 (stock). A patch was also applied to samba on RHEL 3, but was NOT on RHEL 4. This patch (samba-3.0.9-excel.patch) will apply cleanly on samba-3.0.10-1.4E.9, and build without a glinch. This issue is NOT solves by http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324491 (has it on a machine with Office SP3 installed). Maybe we can get a centosplus version of samba with this patch applied ? Highlighting Text in Console
Anyone know how I can highlight specific words/letters (e.g., bold, or different colour) when displaying text to the console using cat or equivalent? I can change e.g., the colour for everything by loading in a new Rconsole file, but what I really want to do is write "hello world" to the screen but with the word "world" highlighted in some way. I've searched the

Cases where Samba modifies a file without changing the timestamp?
Hi, apart from the mmap(2)ed DBM files that Samba uses, are they any cases where Samba will *modify* data files without setting the mtime ? I have issues with rsync not seeing changes to Samba exported files (md5sum don't match). The mtime is however in the very distant past (say 2004), but the content seems to have changed. I don't think it's a data integrity issue. Any idea ?

Excel "file may have been modified by another user since" with Samba 3.0.10
Hello list, I am encountering a problem with Excel 2003 on Samba shares. If I open an Excel file, edit a cell and then try to save it, I get a dialog box with a "file may have been modified by another user since" message, with the option to save a new copy, or overwrite the current file. Subsequent saves don't exhibit this behaviour, it occurs only on the first save after opening a

oplocks and Excel
I have a small business client with a new samba file server. It's CentOS 4.2 and Samba samba-3.0.10-1.4E.2. When they save open Excel files from Windows, they are prompted to overwrite the existing file. I mean, when they click the little disk icon or use Ctrl-S or File--Save. Excel would normally just write over the file, not check with an "are you sure?" prompt. But that's

Excel Read only file bug back on 3.0.23x?
Hi, I believe that the BUG 2346 which was resolved in samba 3.0.14 has come back in the 3.0.23 series. Here is what I have noticed on two separate configurations. The samba packages were built on each machine using rpmbuild with the SRPMS provided for Fedora in the samba web site. Configuration 1. Two machines running with RHEL4, samba 3.0.23b-1, drbd-0.7.21 protocol C. Kernel:
