...and 95% sustained. We've only had this plugin going for less than a day so I don't really have any more data going back further. But we've suspected a disk issue for some time - just have not been able to prove it. We need to have a very serious look at fixing this situation. But we don't have...

migrate from physical disk problems in xen
...mu for the past few months with no success. However, on my current attempt, the original hardware no longer boots, so I''m trying to resolve the issues with xen properly, or else take a long holiday... Anyway, the physical machine had a 9G drive (OS drive), a 147 G drive (not in use) and a 300G drive (all SCSI Ultra320 on the same SCSI controller) Everytime, I''ve booted linux, used dd to image the original 2 drives (ignored the 147G drive), and written each image with dd to an LV This is exported by iscsi to xen The c: works fine, and I can boot properly in VGA mode (safe mode...

unofficial ext3 and ext4 compare
I have something like 300G I routinely backup. This includes some large 12Gig images and other files. I had been using ext3 on an external USB disk for part of the process. Under ext3 doing "rsync -a /home /mnt/external_back/backup.jun.27.2011" it took 200 minutes. I took the same computer, same external HD and...

Matrix scalar operation that saves memory?
Hi all, I am currently working with a quite large matrix that takes 300G of memory. My computer only has 512G of memory. I would need to do a few arithmetic on it with a scalar value. My current code looks like this: mat <- 100 - mat However such code quickly uses up all of the remaining memory and got the R script killed by OOM killer. Are there any more memor...

A free space trouble in a ocfs2 partition
..., i have a trouble with a ocfs2 partition. The "df -kh" command reports 63 GB of free space but only can use about 5 GB of this free space !! Intel 320 as ZIL?
Are any of you using the Intel 320 as ZIL? It''s MLC based, but I understand its wear and performance characteristics can be bumped up significantly by increasing the overprovisioning to 20% (dropping usable capacity to 80%). Anyone have experience with this? Ray

Upgrading Server Motherboard
I have a server running CentOS 4.2 that works as a web/email with very heavy load. It runs Directadmin web gui which is like Cpanel. It runs on a cheapy mATX motherboard(ECS 741GX-M) with socket A 2800+ CPU and 2Gbyte DDR. The OS and data are on a 300Gbyte PATA maxtor drive and data backups are run weekly to another PATA drive. The server is overwelmed and data backups take over 5 hours to complete. I have a Tyan(K8E) server board now that is socket 939 with SATA support. Maxtor makes a utillity that will copy there drives so I bought a second...

disk partitioning - I'm missing something simple, I think
...ition to our tape backup paradigm, an rsync script is run which mounts /dev/sdb1 on /mnt/sysinfo and copies system data from sda1 there. /dev/sdb1 is a 146GB drive. The script then mounts /dev/sde1 on /mnt/userdata for a copy of /home and /home/adminusers. /dev/sde1 is a wholly underutilized 300G drive. I'd like to move the contents of /home/adminusers from /dev/sdd1 to /dev/sdc1 and use that underutilized drive elsewhere. What's the least invasive way of doing this given the hardware and partitioning on my system? Thanks in advance, -Ray

LVM encryption and new volume group
Hi Chris, thanks for your answer. It is the first time I decided to encrypt my lvm. I choosed to encrypt the volume group, not every logical volume itself, because in case of doing lvm snapshots in that group they will be encrypted too? And how do I create a new encrypted volume group? Regards Tim Am 6. M?rz 2015 01:58:23 MEZ, schrieb Chris Murphy <lists at colorremedies.com>: >On

Swap out PERC controller with a spare I have never had a problem with the PERC4/DC controllers on our other machines (RHEL3/4, CentOS 4). Although, I've no other machine that has 5 300G Fujitsu SCSI drives either. Any suggestions on the below, or which order on the above to try ? ...less acessed). But I also needed to do with nfs and symlinks. So, it comes the namespaces discussion and a little brainstorm: 1) Could I have a namespace only with INBOX and the personal folders (drafts, sent items, etc) in another one - and those would be stored in huge sata disks while inbox in 300g sas disks ? 2) Could I maintain the prior configuration, but let the second namespace hidden and having the inbox subfolders (or any specific as sent items) as virtual folder ? I don?t know if this makes sense... 3) Could I have my normal Inbox and a folder (in another disk - ex. huge sata one) s...

You have to change the /dev/sdX designation to point to the new drive or partition. 2 cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sdX newdrive 3. pvcreate /dev/mapper/newdrive 4. vgcreate newvg /dev/mapper/newdrive 5. lvcreate -L 300G -n morestuff newvg 6. mkfs.xfs /dev/mapper/newvg-morestuff Adapt as needed.
