how to slice a zoo object
Hi
Would anyone have any pointers on how to slice up a large zoo table. I
have the following structure: -

meaning of tests presented in anova(ols(...)) {Design package}
Hi,
I am curious about how to interpret the table produced by
anova(ols(...)), from the Design package. I have a multiple linear
regression model, with some interaction, defined by:
ols(formula = log(ksat * 60 * 60) ~ log(sar) * pol(activity,
3) + log(conc) * pol(sand, 3), data = sm.clean, x = TRUE,
y = TRUE)

For-Loop faster than vectorized code?
Dear R-Users,
I am working on an Hierarchical Bayes model and tried to replace the inner
for-loop (which loops over a list with n.observations elements) with truely
vectorized code (where I calculated everything based on ONE dataset over all
respondents).
However, when comparing the performance of the two alternatives, I found out
that the code with the for-loop actually was faster! In order to

Implicit vs explicit printing and the call stack
Hi everyone,
I've run into a bit of strange problem with implicit vs explicit
printing and the call stack. I've included an example at the bottom of
this email. The basic problem is that I have an S3 object with a
print method. When the object is implicitly printed (ie. typed
directly into the console) the function arguments in the call stack
are exploded out to their actual values,

Merging data tables
Hi all,
I am trying to merge several data sets and end up with a long data
format by date & time so I can run correlations and plots. I am using
Deducer as an R GUI but can just use the R console if easier.
The data sets are weather with wind speed, relative humidity and
temperatures by date and minute and bat activity with date, time, label,
and an activity index number. The bat

Documentation of model.frame() and get_all_vars()
Hi everyone,
This is about documentation for the model.frame() page. The
get_all_vars() function (added in R 2.5.0) is a great addition, but
the behavior of its '...' argument is different from that of
model.frame() with which it is documented and this creates ambiguity.
The current docs read:
\item{\dots}{further arguments such as \code{data}, \code{na.action},
\code{subset}. Any

Standard error of coefficient in linear regression
Hello R users,
I have a substantial question about statistics, not about R itself, but
I would love to have an answer from an R user, in form of an example in
R syntax. I have spent whole Sunday searching in Google and browsing the
books. I've been really close to the answer but there are at least three
standard errors you can talk about in the linear regression and I'm
really confused.

Possible issue with R-tools on Windows
This is a bit of a cross-post but I've encountered what appears to be a
parsing error with RTools on Windows in a couple of different contexts
on Widows when R is installed on a secondary drive to avoid using
precious space on my c:/ solid state drive.
This type of apparent parsing error has has occurred several times
previously when install source code from GitHub, and most recently when

stem plot problem with the mtcars data (PR#6453)
Full_Name: Liming Liang
Version: 1.8.1
OS: windows2000 professional
Submission from: (NULL) (67.172.81.139)
I was looking at the variable 'mpg' of the data file 'mtcars' and make a stem
plot, the following is the commend I entered. The stem plot shows the largest
observation is 32.9 but actually in the data the largest observation is 33.9,
here might be a problem.

Possible issue with R-tools on Windows
Hmmm, you may know winbuilder: It has R not installed oin drive C: and
works well. Even with R installed on a network share I can easily
install packages.
using R-devel binary in, e.g. for 64 bit: in d:/RCompile/recent/R/bin/x64
working directory: d:/library-devel
specified library: c:/tmp

Can anyone help me reproduce this SAS Mixed output??
I asked this before and I am going to try again in more applied terms. I
am trying to use R to extract variance components for a two-factor random
effects model with both factors crossed. It would also be nice to
generate some confidence intervals as well. For example, a data set
using SAS Proc Mixed is below followed by the four variance component
estimates and the respective confidence

Ask for functions to obtain partial R-square (squared partial correlation coefficients)
The partial R-square (or coefficient of partial determination, or
squared partial correlation coefficients) measures the marginal
contribution of one explanatory variable when all others are already
included in multiple linear regression model.
The following link has very clear explanations on partial and
semi-partial correlation:

Adding support for NUMERIC UPS
Hi,
I have been blessed with the "Numeric 2000 Plus" UPS, suspected to be of
2KVA rating. This UPS does not figure in the list of UPS recognised by NUT.
However I get lucky with megatec driver.
Here is the log...

how to handle irregularly spaced data as timeseries
I have a set of modeled climate data recorded at irregular intervals.
The format of the data is such that there are monthly measurements for
the years 2000, 2020, 2050, 2080, etc. Therefore I have 12 regular
records, a skip of some number of years, then 12 more monthly records,
another skip, and so on.... I created a dataframe from .txt with the
read.table() command. For starters I need
