3.0alpha with ADS on Slowlaris 8
Sirs,
I have asked this before, but I continue to have difficulties with
getting samba3.0alpha to compile with ADS support. That is with this
config line and a successfully compliation, the 'net ads join' comand
returns that ADS is compiled in:
CC=gcc ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/samba3 --with-ads=yes
--with-ldap=yes --with-krb5=/usr/local/krb5-127

Samba 3.0alpha problems with w2k
Hi everyone.
As noone has replied to my problem within the last 4 days i'll try again.
The problem was to integrate a linux-box for a guest at our company as perfect
as possible into our pure windows based network using authentication against
a w2k-server, which was successfully solved using winbind from a precompiled
Samba 3.0alpha21-package from SuSE for their Distribution version 8.1.

Upgrading 3.0alpha -> 3.0.0.rc2, error C000019b for old users only
I am having trouble upgrading my installation of Samba. My setup is:
- Debian Woody x86
- Samba 3.0.0rc2 (upgrading from alpha22)
- Samba acting as a PDC
- Samba accounts and Posix accounts in an LDAP directory (OpenLDAP from
Debian)
I have successfully compiled and installed the new version. I have
extracted all users from the LDAP tree and converted them to the new
schema using the perl

user entries in LDAP, group mapping (samba 3.0alpha cvs - LDAP)
Hello everybody,
I'm experimenting with samba 3.0 but something is not very clear to me,
especially the user entries in the OpenLDAP server.
On my samba server, I configured NSS_LDAP to lookup passwd, group and shadow
entries.
Now I have to add some entries to my LDAP: uid=Administrator and uid=nobody.
According to
http://www.unav.es/cti/ldap-smb/smb-ldap-3-howto.html a user with uidNumber

Error joining Win2K domain: ads_connect: DSA is unavailable
I'm running 3.0alpha (both current CVS pull and alpha20 from dist) and trying to have my samba server join our already in place Win2K ADS domain. I am able to 'kinit user@DOMAIN' and auth successfully, but upon attempting 'net ads join', I get the following:
# net ads join -Uadministrator
administrator password:

Issues with Joining an NT4 Domain
Hello
I'm having some dificulties joining my Samba 3.0alpha (and 2.2.7a)
machine to my NT4 domain. Let me tell you what I'm attempting to
accomplish. I want to setup the Samba system to authenticate to my NT
domain so that I can use NTLM Proxy authentication with SQUID. Through
reading the docs, I'm under the impression that in order to allow thre

Default domain for winbindd?
Hello once again,
I've got winbind doing authentication not just for the samba service but also sshd and login. It's great. However, I have to give a fully-qualified username (e.g. "GENEEDINC+chris.palmer") as the username when logging in via these methods. I wondered, Is there any way to get winbindd to insert the domain and the separator for the user, when none is provided?

Adding a machine; I think I am onto something
Parameters are:
Samba 2.2.7a PDC setup with LDAP includeing posix authentication for Linux.
OK, the tutorial I've based my setup on is the Mandrake tutorial found
at http://www.mandrakesecure.net/en/docs/ldap-auth.php
Works great for autenticateing Linux from LDAP but it is really sparse
on the Samba side of things. Esepcially when it comes to adding machine
trust accounts.
So anyway I

lmcompatibility question
Hello I was wondering if there is a parameter that can be set in order
to be able to run samba and communicate with a windows domain controller
which sets a registry key called lmcompatibility to 5.
I am running samba 2.2.5, and realize I may need to upgrade to a newer
version. Could you give me a heads up on this capability.
Thank you!

Configuring password expiration with SAMBA
I have been researching this for some time and have run into nothing but
walls. My local LUG has basically told me this won't work or at least
that no-one in the group has gotten it to work.
I am trying to setup some SAMBA servers to replace some NT and Novell
servers but I have been informed, by higher powers, that I must be able
to do password aging with whatever I setup (like passwords

Bug #24051
Hmm,
I know its an open source project and that I'm not exactly good at
debugging, but this bug has been in the bug system's incoming folder for
over a YEAR! :).. Its a verified bug with all known versions to date and
I don't see any indication of a fix?
Is this fixed in 3.0alpha? or does it use the same mount code?
HELP!.. I'm going to be rebuilding this PC soon (its OLD now!)

Giving up on authentication to trusted domain
I've pretty much decided that this doesn't work, but I'd like to
take this last opportunity to find out if ANYONE has a working
configuration like mine:
Samba server: v2.2.3a running on a RedHat Linux 7.2 system, plus
Winbind. The Samba server is in the PHS-SC domain, and can be
browsed from "My Network Places".
User "cbenson" has an NT account in the FHCRC domain

Migrating from TNG to 2.2
Hi,
is there a HOWTO about migrating from Samba TNG to Samba 2.2?
I have problems with the user profiles on the Windows client machines,
they are recreated on login on the new Samba (2.2.5) machine. I copied
the SID (with smbpasswd), /etc/passwd and smbpasswd to the new machine,
and everything works fine, except for the user profiles.
Currently we are not using server-saved profile, but we will

Active Directory
I keep seeing questions about Windows Active Directory, so I will pass along
what info I have been able to gather.
Active Directory is billed as Microsoft's LDAP service, used to hold user,
group, and other such data and is standard with Windows 2000.
While billed as LDAP, Active Directory does not conform to standard LDAP
schema, which will break some ldap clients written specifically to

SMB+LDAP Question ...
Greetings ...
I have a quick question, which I hope will get a straight and quick answer.
I am moving my system from flat files to LDAP. I have had my users in
LDAP for a while, but then found that my computer accounts for Win2K in
still in passwd. My question is, what are the bare minume LDAP attribs
that I need for them to contiune to work?
But I don't think I am going to get that

Strange slowdown occasionally in CentOS 5.0
For some reason, parts of my system are now slowing down to an
agonizing crawl from time to time. At first it was my VMWare Server
1.04, which became such a pain that I rebooted. Then, it looked like
it was a network-induced thing because the prime culprit was
SeaMonkey, particularly with multiple tabs open. I did an ifdown and
ifup on my NIC and that seemed to help for a while. But then it

Samba 2.23 ACL support ?
Hi,
I am evaluating samba with RH 7.3 in a test environment and supposed to go
live by end of Sep02, hopefully.
I will be replacing file and print server first in a environment of more
than 1500 users.
I have been reading through massive docs and trying to find out the exact
strategy to shoot at. In doing so i have achieved some success, but i
definately need further assistance.
Apologies, if I

big file server
Hi
I plan to set up a big file server, something like motherboard with 4 ide
ports and an additional 4 ide daughter card, a PIV proc and 512 or 1024 MB
ram, a 100 or 1000 MB NIC, with 6 or 7 200 GB ide HDDs in a sigle box. I
don't need lightning performance, just disk space. Of course this would be
served by some linux os and samba
questions (relative to samba configuration and behaviour) :
