is there any way to simplify that extensions.conf file?

Please help I fear I have missed something very important! but what?
...I cannot get incoming
calls to work. So I have gone back to a very basic FWD config, with one
phone which as far as I am aware should work, but doesn't. I cannot find
info on how to fix this.
