Processor Size
Can someone give me an idea of the processor power I will need for 1 x TDM240 with 2xquad FXO's and 8 sip phones/ATA's on a quite 100Mbit LAN. The machine we have available of hand is a P4 1GHz with 768MB RAM. Tx Marnus van Niekerk -- "Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work." pass multicore cpu to domU?
Hello, I''m relatively new to Xen and am facing a problem that is bugging me greatly. I have a server that has 2xquad core xeons. Among other things, there is a windows based statistical app that we need to be able to run. This app is smp enabled, and I would like to allocate either one or both physical cpus to it. As I understand it, is that xen treats each core as a vpu, and the concept of a ''...

Asterisk scalability
Hello, I wonder how Asterisk scales when we increment the Core's or CPU's of one computer. I see that Asterisk is only one process (I guess that it uses threads). But because Asterisk is only one process, this process is always executed in the same CPU. So we can have a 8 Cores server, with one Core running Asterisk, another Core running operating system stuff/other small daemons and 6

Best virtualization setup for Centos 5.2
...running Centos 5.2 on our servers for some time now and are really happy with it. Now I'm investigating the best way to setup virtual machines in order to streamline our infrastructure. The setup I'm aiming for is Centos 5.2 guests on Centos 5.2 host. The physical systems are going to be 2xquad core Xeons and the VMs are probably going to be 1 or 2 vCPUs with 1 or 2 gb of ram for each guest. I plan to migrate a number of vmware instances on such a setup so I'm wondering what I can expect performance-wise when switching to either Xen or KVM. As far as I understand is Xen is the &qu...

High Number of VMs
Hi, I''m curious about how you guys deal with big virtualization installations. To this date we only dealt with a small number of VM''s (~10)on not too big hardware (2xquad xeons+16GB ram). As I''m the "storage guy" I find it quite convenient to present to the dom0s one LUN per VM that makes live migration possible but without the cluster file system or cLVM complexity. The thing is that Linux has a 255 SCSI device limit apparently (255/2= ~128 with...

Zlib plugin - when does it make sense?
Hi, I run a small IMAP server for a dozen guys in the office, serving about 55GB of Maildir. I recently became aware of the Zlib plugin ( http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Plugins/Zlib ) and wondered 1. given that there is about zero CPU load on my IMAP server, is enabling the plugin a no-brainer or are there other things (except CPU load) to consider? 2. For enabling the plugin, I suppose you

Many Tx dropped packets
Hi, I have 3 xen box with 2-3 VM on each. Each server has 2 nic (1 for external and 1 for internal network). All VMs are webserver and they mount a nfs filesystem. I''ve noticed that on each dom0 there are many dropped packets. Server config is: 1- DELL (2xQuad Xeon E5320 @1.86Ghz - 8Gb Ram - Perc5 - Kernel 2.6.18-6 (debian etch)) 2- DELL (2xDual Xeon 5110 @1.60Ghz - 4Gb Ram - Perc5 - Kernel 2.6.18-6 (debian etch)) 3 - 2xOpteron 242 @ 1,60Ghz - 2Gb Ram - 3ware raid controller - kernel 2.6.18-6 (debian etch)) This is my ifconfig output for the first serve...

Planning "hotel" phone system - Need input
Ok, I'm working on an implementation of Asterisk to service approximately 50 fractional (read: timeshare) residences. Basically what I'm starting with is a hotel phone system, but with additional functionality that Asterisk can provide. From the end user's perspective, I want the exact same functionality as the Telco provides (Caller ID, visual message waiting, etc) with a few
