Zpool mishap
Evening all, I''m new to Solaris but after drooling over zfs for ages I finally took the plunge.
First off I had 2x1Tb hdd in raid1 XFS format using mdadm, so using a opensolaris vm image I transfered one side of the mirror to the other in zfs. (using rsync and it took 3days!)
So with a 1 disk zpool carrying all my data I brought both the drives over in a new box, all going swimmingly until I realise that instead...

Load balancing...
...ng device that keeps track and send traffic to
the best server possible at the time. This was a proprietary system that I
think was something Dell rebranded.
Right now, the whole site is is 400gb of video, HTML5, Apache, PHP, MySQL,
runs on a single box with 16gb of RAM and mirrored /var/www/html (2x1tb raid
level drives). I have a Comcast 50/10 connection, 5 statics and I am seeing
about 125 unique visitors a day. The site runs fine, but in anticipation of
more traffic as well as a learning experience I would like to load balance.
Obviously I need a second server just like the one it is running...

scrub on snv-b107
scrub completed after 1h9m with 0 errors on Tue Feb 17 12:09:31 2009
This is about twice as slow as the same srub on a solaris 10 box with a
mirrored zfs root pool. Has scrub become that much slower? And if so,
why?

(OT) Where can I find a PERC Simulator?
Hello and apologies for being off-topic, but this is my last option!
I've been looking for a PERC simulator to help with training, but for
the life of me, I cannot find it anywhere on the internet! I even
called Dell to see if they can offer me a download link to no avail. I
know there is one somewhere as I've seen screenshots of it *[0]*!
If anyone has it and is willing to help,

I/O performance problem using LVM mirrors to back phy: devices
So, we just moved to some much faster hardware. intel q6600 CPU, 8Gb
unbuffered ECC, ICH7 sata (2x1TB disks) - and we were irritated
and puzzled to find that the new setup had really, really slow I/O.
The odd thing is that the performance is fine if you just mount the LV
directly from the Dom0... but if you xm block-attach it to the Dom0
and then mount it, you get 1/10th the speed.
we are ru...

NFS vs SMb vs iSCSI for remote backup mounts
...tup
something better. We don't have much control over the remote server, so I
couldn't setup a VPN, or iSCSI or anything else. My options was FTP & SMB.
But I want to move the backups in-house, to save bandwidth and have more
control over what we do.
So, with a new CentOS server & 2x1TB HDD's in RAID1 configuration, I can do
pretty much whatever I want. The backup server(s) will serve backups for
multiple servers, in different data centers (possible in different counties
as well, I still need to think about this), so my biggest concern is
security.
We mainly use cPanel &...

Dovecot main process killed by KILL signal
Hi,
I have a dovecot 2.0.7 installed on ubuntu 12.10 and often in dmesg I

mirrored pool unimportable (FAULTED)
Hi,
more than a year ago I created a mirrored ZFS-Pool consiting of 2x1TB
HDDs using the OSX 10.5 ZFS Kernel Extension (Zpool Version 8, ZFS
Version 2). Everything went fine and I used the pool to store personal
stuff on it, like lots of photos and music. (So getting the data back is
not time critical, but still important to me.)
Later, since the development of the ZFS...

ZFS RaidZ recommendation
I have been searching this forum and just about every ZFS document i can find trying to find the answer to my questions. But i believe the answer i am looking for is not going to be documented and is probably best learned from experience.
This is my first time playing around with open solaris and ZFS. I am in the midst of replacing my home based filed server. This server hosts all of my media
