just to verify basic facts: Did you cross check vie network sniff, on which SMB protocol versions Server + Win 7 clients agree ? Or did you pin down via registry ? AFAIK only starting with win 8 or win 10 clients you could ask with powershell, which protocol version is in use. Did you also cross check samba logs for a name resolution issue ( windows names, not DNS) if one of your boxes is an

Help for 5000 clients server + 50 sources
Hi, i need a server for 5000 clients and 50 sources at the same time Can you help me to choose the right server? I was thinking this one PowerEdge R710 n.2 x Intel Xeon E5502 (1,86GHz, cache 4MB, 4,86 GT/s QPI) 2GB Memory for 1CPU (2x1GB Single Rank UDIMMs) 1066MHz 2 X 146GB SAS 15.000rpm 3,5" hd hot-plug PERC 6/i RAID controller 256MB PCIe 2x4 1 gbit network card Thanks -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... samba 4.x slow ...
Hi, we are running samba 4.4 on two machines as file servers. Both are running a GFS (stornext). The storage is attached using 8G HBA. You can get up to 800MB/s local speed. We are exporting the shares using 2x1GB and 2x10G. However the clients are only getting 40-50MB/s. With samba3 I think we had up to 80-90MB/s. Using a 100MB/s link for the client we see 12-13MB/s (wire speed). Using NFS (3) we see up to 120MB/s (GB). How can we improve the speed ? How can we find the bottle neck ? (I tested already...

connection speeds between nodes
...to that (testing with iperf confirms that) but testing the speed to already existing nfs shares gives me a 55MB max. as i'm not familiar with network shares performance tweaking is was wondering if anybody here did and could give me some info on this? Also i thought on giving all the nodes 2x1Gb-eth ports and putting those in a BOND, will do this any good or do i have to take a look a the nfs server side first? thanks, Wessel

[Bridge] Bridging over a bonded interface?
Hi, This may sound crazy but I will go ahead anyway. Here's my scenario: ifconfig bond0 10.10.10.1 netmask 255.0.0.0 ifenslave bond0 eth0 ifenslave bond0 eth1 brctl addbr stp0 brctl addif stp0 bond0 brctl stp stp0 on Is this a valid scenario? I am trying to bond two interfaces and run STP over the bonded interface..The problem I am trying to solve is to run STP over aggregated links

64-bit OS, WINE and Memory (size) related question.
...e now, based on compatibility concerns as I began to learn and use Linux full time, I?ve recently gotten the urge to start playing around with some 64-bit distro?s. The benefit of course is running more than the 4Gb (system-wide) limit imposed by a 32-bit OS. In my current system I only have 2Gb (2x1Gb) of RAM so I?m thinking of either adding 4Gb (2x2Gb) or even upgrading to 8Gb (4x2Gb). My dilemma is that the apps I use WINE for (Games) are all 32-bit, which leaves me to wonder how effectively used the extra memory will be utilized, by both the OS and WINE. Something else that gives me pause i...

OT: (a) Biostar or MSI mainboard? (b) all Celeron CPU's OK?
(a) Mark (mhr) suggested I buy a bare bones box, when I reported the problem with the mainboard in this Dell Dimension 2400 box. Possibly I can have the mainboard repaired (and the PSU, if it is also having problems), and if so, I will give this one to my Stepson and go the bare bones box route and have a more powerful box for myself. I looked at two (2) very low end Desktop mainboards in the

Bonding and Xen
Does anyone has implemented this sucessfully? I am asking this because we are implementing Xen on our test lab machines, which they hold up to three 3com and intel Nics 10/100mbps based. These servers are meant to replace MS messaging and intranet webservers which holds up to 5000 hits per day and thousands of mails, and probably the Dom0 could not handle this kind of setup with only one 100mbps

The best motherboard for a home ZFS fileserver
I''m a fan of ZFS since I''ve read about it last year. Now I''m on the way to build a home fileserver and I''m thinking to go with Opensolaris and eventually ZFS!! Apart from the other components, the main problem is to choose the motherboard. The offer is incredibly high and I''m lost. Minimum requisites should be: - working well with Open Solaris ;-) -
