2TB limit, weird mounting issues on reboot
...g some weird issues surrounding the 2 terabyte limit on my 3ware (9590SE, PCI Express model) raid controller. Currently, the raid array is 6 x 500GB disks for a total of around 2.3 terabytes formatted. Looking at the documentation on the 3ware site, the raid card can handle a single partition over 2TB, but it still looks like fdisk fails to create a primary partition over the 2TB limit. I did resort to parted, and it creates a partition over 2TB. And, in fact, I can run mke2fs on this partition, and mount it. I also have an entry for this partition in the /etc/fstab file. However, if I reboo...

Writing to the wrong directory
I expect this is user error, but I thought I'd post in case anyone else is feeling a similar sense of losing their mind. I have a root cron job: 0 3 * * * rsync -Hva --stats --del ... / /media/2tb/bak/dancer-`date +\%F`/ "..." represents 4 --link-dest's and 22 --exclude's (including /media/). So last night, / should have been copied to /media/2tb/bak/dancer-2010-11-29/. Instead, when I checked on my backups this morning, instead of /media/2tb/bak/dancer-2010-11-29/, / h...

DatOptic RAID Array >2TB?
i'm trying to set up a hardware RAID array (eRAID from DatOptic) under CentOS. we have two more of these arrays which have worked very well for their purposes (backup and/or portable storage), but neither of our older arrays exceeded the dreaded 2TB barrier (one of them is, in fact, 2TB). the server i'm currently testing with is running CentOS4.5, but i do have CentOS5 servers i could use. the problem i'm running into is that the array SHOULD be recognized as ~3TB, but i'm unable (even using "parted") to see it a...

2TB partition limitation on X86_64 version??
...server with Centos 5.3 X86_64 bits version on it. This server also have couple MD1000 connect to it. We configured MD1000 as one hardware Volume size 2990GB. I tried to use "fdisk" to partition this 2990Gb volume and "fdisk" can only see 2000GB. does 64 bits O.S. still have 2TB limitation on File system? Does there has other tool can partition disk size large than 2TB? (I don't like use LVM) Thanks. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ ?????????Yahoo!??????2.0????????????? http://tw.mg0.mai...

Qeury regarding 64GB SSD + 2tb?
Greetings, I have a system x3100 m4 system with 64GB SSD for OS and 2x2tb for data as MD device (software RAID). It had Fedora 17 with EFI/ I tried to install centos 6. deleting the existing partitions on the SSD /dev/sdc. sda and sdb are the 2x2tb md device mounted on /home. no joy. googling Questions: 1. Where do I locate the boot loader? /dev/sdc? is MBR (the de...

DomU 2TB vbd limit?
Hi everyone, Just a quick question: Is there a limit on the vbd size for pv guest domains, I''ve found only rumors on the Internet about a 2TB limit, but from my experience with xen-3.0.3 /linux-kernel-2.6.18-5 (installed from a debian etch packages) I can say that a lvm volume of 3.7TB as created and formated in Dom0 is seen as 1.85TB only of course reporting a corrupted xfs filesystem ending after the end of the device. If there is any...

LVM change disk
Dear all, I have a 4,1TB Logical volume consist of four disks with size of 2TB, 1TB, 1TB, and 500GB. The LV currently full. I plan to change the 1Tb disks and 500Gb disks. I plan to remove one 1TB disk or the 500GB so that I can replace it with 2TB disk. most LVM tutorial ask to use pvmove to move phisical extent to the new disk. The problem is that I have no SATA port left s...

Dell Perc 6 disk geometry problem with RAID5 (both 6.3 final and 7.0 RC1)
Hi, We bought a new Dell PowerEdge 2950III with Perc 6/i and have the disk geometry problem using 6.3 final or 7.0 RC1. Seems that we are not alone at least one guy has similar problem reported earlier: http://unix.derkeiler.com/Mailing-Lists/FreeBSD/questions/2008-01/msg00506.html I was reading the mailing list and found that some of the people are happily using this hardware with the latest

booting from a +2TB disk
I have been trying to install CentOS 4.1 on a new server today. The installation went fine but the system doesn't boot. It doesn't even get to the Grub screen. The system has a 3ware 9500 series controller and 12 250GB SATA disks which are configured for RAID5 with one hot spare. I searched on the web and noticed that this is a Grub (and Lilo) limitation. Is there any way around it other

LVM on large partitions greater than 2TB
...em here is that GNU parted doesn't know about many file systems and doesn't know anything about LVM. So, following some steps on the LVM Howto, I used parted to create a large ext2 partition, then used fdisk to change the type to 8e for LVM. Once I do this, I see that the partition is now 2TB in size -- close, but .5 TB short. Why is this so difficult? How should large partitions be created under Centos? Any help is appreciated. CentOS6: HELP! EFI boot fails after replacing disks...
OK, I wanted to replace the 500G disks in a Dell T20 server with new 2TB disks. The machine has 4 SATA ports, one used for the optical disk and three for the hard drives. It is set up with /dev/sda and /dev/sdb with each three partitions: 1 -- VFAT (for EFI) 2 -- ext4 (for /boot) 3 -- LVM /dev/sda2 and /dev/sdb2 are a mirror raid (/dev/md0) /dev/sda3 and /dev/sdb...

Large Drives
...d. To start I need a vdev I will call "temp" that acts as a networked bit bucket for me to drop items I want to keep around for a while, but don''t really care if I lose any data in there. If I wont be using this in a raidz configuration, just a single drive vdev - can I use any 2TB drive? Even the WD that lie about their sector size? Speed is not really of any importance here. I also need another vdev to store my media backups. These are very large files that take up a lot of space. It would be a bummer if I lost data here, but all of the data is replaceable, it would ju...

Is it possible to transfer a large, dynamic file in a piecemeal fashion?
Greetings, Is it possible to use rsync to transmit a large, dynamic 2TB file in a piecemeal fashion during daylight hours over the course of a dozen days? On a good day, about 200GB of data can be transferred before rsync times out to enable a nightly local backup to complete. The local backup changes a few 512 byte blocks in the 2TB file. That's why the 2TB file...
