How to size an email server to handle 5 million emails per day
...as to how to size an email server. I was approached by a customer that wanted a single server with RAID 1 disks to handle about 5 million emails a day. In general terms, what parameters should I take into account to size the hardware specs when the average email is about 10kb, the smalles email is 2kb and the largest email is about 5meg (with attachment) thanks, -- ------------------------------------------------------------ Erick Perez

Problems with multiboot DVD and isolinux > 3.07
...tory from the Knoppix CD to dvd_root/ and the /boot/isolinux directory from the Knoppix CD to dvd_root/boot/knoppixo (this boot loader will be refered to as "secondary isolinux") 3. I changed the config search dir of dvd_root/boot/knoppixo/isolinux.bin to its new directory 4. I created a 2KB file called dvd_root/boot/bootsec/knoppixo.bin (which is loaded from the main isolinux when selecting Knoppix) 5. I created the ISO9660 image 6. I wrote the boot info table to /boot/knoppixo/isolinux.bin (in the ISO9660 image!) and copied the first 2KB of /boot/knoppixo/isolinux.bin to /boot/boo...

How many files & directories in a ZFS filesystem?
Looking for a little help, please. A contact from Oracle (Sun) suggested I pose the question to this email. We''re using ZFS on Solaris 10 in an application where there are so many directory-subdirectory layers, and a lot of small files (~1-2Kb) that we ran out of inodes (over 30 million!). So, the zfs question is, how can we see how many files & directories have been created in a zfs filesystem? Equivalent to "df -o i" on a UFS filesystm. Short of doing a find <zfs-mount-point> | wc. TIA. -- David Strom

Traffic Shaping for DVB gateway
Hello all, I am providing broadband service through DVB circuit. I have 4KB uplink and 32KB downlink. I want to share 32KB downlink bandwidth among 192.168.0.0/24 (20 users in this subnet i.e 192.168.0.2-192.168.0.22)subnet where each user will get 2KB to 6KB bandwidth. And from 4KB uplink bandwidth each users will get only 1KB to 2KB bandwidth....

...hat are appropriate parameter settings for limit, min, max, etc. All my trials end up with either "RTNETLINK answers: Invalid argument", although the command line (at least for me) looks fine in regard to what is said on the man page. "tc qdisc replace dev lo red limit 10kb min 2kb max 8kb avpkt 1000 burst 12 ecn" being one such example. I am using kernel version 2.6.16.29 and the most recent iproute2 package. Thanks in advance, Daniel

A Billion Files on OCFS2 -- Best Practices?
We have an application that has many processing threads writing more than a billion files ranging from 2KB ? 50KB, with 50% under 8KB (currently there are 700 million files). The files are never deleted or modified ? they are written once, and read infrequently. The files are hashed so that they are evenly distributed across ~1,000,000 subdirectories up to 3 levels deep, with up to 1000 files per dire...

NHW Project - new -l8 "very high compression" setting
...etails and preserve neatness.I have also now a fast estimation of entropy of wavelet coefficients and I use it accordingly to the image complexity but it is a very first version... With these new processings, the entropy coding schemes are less efficient, and so we could save for -l8 setting nearly 2KB per compressed .nhw file in average, will have to improve them... This new -l8 setting has so a good neatness to the detriment of details. It is still experimental, but I find it competitive with x265 (HEVC). Update at: http://nhwcodec.blogspot.com/ Any feedback is very welcome! Cheers, Raphael...

11025kHz and framesizes question
I have been using the Speex NB mode with an 11025 kHz signal, without adjusting the framesize, and it's been sounding just fine to me. However I was wondering what the best way to make 11025kHz would be. I also have an audio driver that uses 2kB buffers, and the NB framesize of 160 doesn't divide evenly into that so I end up having to shovel tails of buffers around which isn't too efficient. So I wondered if there was a clean way I could change the NB mode buffer size to be 256, which would be a little closer 20ms at 11025 but als...

quota_set leak
The quota plugin in 2.0.beta6 leaks 2KB "quota settings" pools. Here is a patch to plug this leak, assuming you intended the caller of quota_init to retain ownership of the quota_set. If on the other hand you intended for quota_init to assume ownership of the quota_set, then the quota_settings_deinit call belongs in quota_dei...

isolinux - memdisk - thanks!
Hi Peter, You did a great job on the isolinux and memdisk tools.. I can know, I've also written a CD-Rom disk emulator, only it's slow (read from the CD) uses 22KB conventional memory (mainly cache) and the emulated floppy image cannot be written to. http://www.nu2.nu/diskemu/ You're memdisk is fast, small conventional memory footprint and the emulated drive is writeable, very, very, cool!!! I (together with someone else) have written a real-mode Dos C...
