No increased throughput with SMB Multichannel and two NICs
Hello, I'm running Samba 4.4.5 with enabled SMB Multichannel. The Linux server has two 1GBit/s NICs and for testing purposes I've shared a tmpfs mountpoint with 2GiB and ~2GiB large test-file. My Windows 10 host has one dual-port 1GBit/s NIC, and if both interfaces are enabled, Get-SmbMultichannelConnection lists active multichannel connections to my Linux SMB server. If I disable one NIC on Windows, the other NIC is used with ~1GBit/s when transferring the t...

[llvm-toolchain v3.8.1] LTO: Linking clang hangs with ld.gold and LLVMgold.so plugin
Hi, unfortunately, my build somehow hangs when linking clang binary and my system is in an unusable state. My toolchain is clang-3.8, gold-1.11 and LLVMgold.so from binutils v2.26.1 (both selfmade) and LTO-flag is enabled. My buildsystem uses cmake-3.6.0 and ninja-1.7.1 (both prebuilt). I have 52 last steps left in my 3rd build. My Linux-kernel is v3.13.0-92 from official Ubuntu repositories.

unexpected raid1 behavior?
Hi, I''m starting to play with btrfs on my new computer. I''m running Gentoo and have compiled the 2.6.31 kernel, enabling btrfs. Now I have 2 partitions (on 2 different sata disks) that are free for me to play with, each about 375 gb in size. I wanted to create a "raid1" volume using these two partitions, so I did: # mkfs.btrfs -d raid1 /dev/sda5 /dev/sdb5 # mount

...ou choke it, you mess with timers. If you mess with timers, interface polling and a HUGE slew of items (including a guest OS's clock) will be slowed to a crawl. In my experience (both on ESXi and VMware Workstation), gGeneral sizing guidelines are that the first core on the first socket and 1-2GiB RAM should be considered dedicated to the host and arbitrary VMs should not have a vCPU count greater than the number of cores of an available socket and the vRAM should not exceed the RAM directly available to the NUMA node of the socket. 2 Intel Xeon x54xx constitute 1 NUMA node so you can have...

Boot from USB without C Drive
Dear All I have a problem with my Compaq EVO n410c laptop. I want to install Windows (Win98/WinXP) on it. But this laptop don't have any floppy/cdrom to boot from. I have try to use My USB Drive to boot, using syslinux. Here's my step 1. Format the USB Drive using "HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool" 2. Install syslinux (syslinux -f F:). F is my USB Drive 3. Using

CentOS and Dell Support
I'm a fairly experienced RH and Fedora user and admin looking to try CentOS for the first time. I have lots of experience with Dell servers and I'd like to stick with them. Although I'm sure it's not always strictly enforced, Dell claims that it won't provide warranty hardware support on servers installed with an un-Dell-supported OS (basically, anything other Windows, RH, and

Actually, the global data area, which includes the GOT and any global of local scope, is limited to 4GiB. However, the latter is limited to 2GiB, in order to guarantee addressing the GOT and the small data area, assuming this section order: 1. .got 2. .sdata .sbss 3. .ldata .lbss The .data and .bss sections, containing the globals of global scope, may follow these immediately, but can actually be placed anywhere in the memory map...

FLAC encoder craps out at 2 GiB border
As if I hadn't had enough audio problems yet (Audacity won't record in 24/32 bits in spite of the MME driver being capable of such (verified with line-in plugin for Winamp) and stays in 16 bit, now I need to find software that works; a driver bug causing only 32 bit int to work for recording complicates things further), now I've also encountered a FLAC encoder file size limit. Look

RISC-V LLVM sync-up call 19 Mar 2020
If I’m following correctly, there are two size-limited areas. One area, limited to 2GB, is the “text” area. This contains all the code. Then there’s a “global” area, limited to 4GB, which is pointed to by the global pointer. This contains the GOT, plus a flexible area that the object file can stick small bits of data into. And then outside of both of those, additional data is unlimited. It
