LAN Switch w/ QoS
Does anyone have a recommendation for a 48 port LAN switch for a new * system? I'm not happy with NetGear's reliability. -- Michael Welter Introspect Telephony Corp. Denver, Colorado +1 303 674 2575 mike@introspect.com www.introspect.com

OT: LSI SAS1068e / Perc6/iR RAID Health
...drivers and Megaraid Storage Manager downloads via LSI's site, but I'd prefer not to install a bunch of crapware. All I need is the proper LSI daemon which exports info via SNMP. I've used check_sasraid_megaraid Nagios script [0] in the past for PERC5i and PERC6i controllers in Dell PE2950s. For 2950s I've only had to install sas_snmp-3.11-0003.i386.rpm from LSI to get rolling. I've tried installing parts from the MSM zip/tarball mess to install only the lsi_mrdsnmpd daemon (lsi_mrdsnmpagent). PERC5i = LSI 8048e (megaraid) PERC6i = LSI SAS 1078 (megaraid) SAS6/iR = LSI SAS...

Large directory performance
...as 10 million files in a single directory and still get lookups at a rate of 5,000 files/sec. That leaves me wondering 2 things. How can we get 5,000 files/sec for anything and why is our performance dropping off so suddenly at after 20k files? Here is our setup: All IO servers are Dell PowerEdge 2950s. 2 8-core sockets with X5355 @ 2.66GHz and 16Gb of RAM. The data is on DDN S2A 9550s with 8+2 RAID configuration connected directly with 4Gb Fibre channel. They are running RHEL 4.5, Lustre 6.7.2-ddn3, kernel 2.6.18-128.7.1.el5.ddn1.l1.6.7.2.ddn3smp As a side note the users code is Parflow, devel...

sync performance falls off a cliff
...ly divided up evenly between building the file list and looking thru the file list. The files themselves are really small (~16K) and I'm not seeing any problem with anything other than how long it takes rsync to make a pass thru all the files. I do use the --delete option. The servers are Dell 2950s, builtin RAID 10 disks and 4Gig of RAM. OS is Centos 5.1. I'm running rsync 2.6.8 protocol version 29. This smells to me like some sort of caching problem. Is there something in the kernel or rsync itself that I can tweek? Thanks, Mike -------------- next part -------------- HTML attachment...

Hi Everyone: I installed CentOS 4.4 on a new Dell 2950 using the server cd. No errors during the installation and no errors on bootup when loading the Eth0 or Eth1 interfaces. I currently have iptables stopped and selinux disabled. The interfaces have been given a static ip (192.168.1.x). the subnet is 255.255.255.0 and the gateway is 192.168.1.1. I can not ping any device on my network

Compatibility Issues with dell poweredge 1950 and TE110P card
Has anyone had any compatibility issues with a TE110P card installed on a Dell Poweredge 1950? I noted the following error on the LCD display of the Dell Poweredge 1950: E1711 PCI PErr Slot 1 E171F PCIE Fatal Error B0 D4 F0. The Dell hardware owners manual states that it means the system BIOS has reported a PCI parity error on a component that resides in PCI configuration space at bus 0,

VT 64bit kernel with >4Gb RAM
Hi there, I have the lucky task to setup a Xen system. my plateform is a dell 2950 with 16Gb of RAM. I got as far as setting up debian sarge and xen following http://www.debian-administration.org/articles/423 and overcoming some specific difficulties (http://kmuto.jp/b.cgi/debian/d-i-2615.htm & http://wiki.ncsa.uiuc.edu/wiki/Dell_PE1950_NIC_Firmware_Workaround) But, my concern now, while
