Dealing with swappiness on host systems
...ting /proc/sys/vm/swappiness to 1 (apparently setting it to 0 now means even the OOM killer takes precedence over swapping: https://www.percona.com/blog/2014/04/28/oom-relation-vm-swappiness0-new-kernel/ ). After doing this I could still see the used swap increase for a guest even though there were 28G of memory used only as page-cache on the host. Taking another look at it I notices that swappiness can now apparently be controlled on a per-process basis as well by means of using the files under /sys/fs/cgroup/memory/machine.slice however I found no good documentation describing which of the val...

Samba 4.2.x requiring TLS authentication
Hi everyone, I have installed a Samba AD DC version 4.2.11-20 in a Centos 6.7 machine and joined it in an existing domain. Everything seems working fine except I can't bind to it using LDAP simple authentication. When I try to perform a simple ldapsearch I get the following response: ldap_bind: Strong(er) authentication required (8) additional info: BindSimple: Transport encryption required.

help diagnosing system hang
Hi all, First, I''ll say my intent is not to spam a bunch of lists, but after posting to opensolaris-discuss I had someone communicate with me offline that these lists would possibly be a better place to start. So here we are. For those on all three lists, sorry for the repetition. Second, this message is meant to solicit help in diagnosing the issue described below. Any hints on

Re: Create qcow2 v3 volumes via libvirt
I have been using internal snapshots on production qcow2 images for a couple of years, admittedly as infrequently as possible with one exception and that exception has had multiple snapshots taken and removed using virt-manager's GUI. I was unaware of this: > There are some technical downsides to > internal snapshots IIUC, such as inability to free the space used by the > internal
