Disabling services in CentOS 5.5

IPSec VPN Setup?
...bit of information, but it is a little overwhelming, as I am new to setting up a VPN. Is the a "standard" method for doing this sort of setup that I am missing so far? excluding directories in rsync

missing dependency for package
...package, and remove the things that I do not need, and thus removing their dependencies? If I have to maintain my own package for this, I can, but I would prefer another option, if available. using NOPASSWD in sudoers
...the sudoers file, I am logging out of the machine and logging back in to make sure that it is properly reading the changes. I have also replaced the list of commands with a Cmnd_Alias, with no change in behavior. Problem updating curl
...re of anyway of getting around this without rebuilding gnupg as well? I am just afraid that if I have to rebuild the gnupg package also, it will cause many other dependency issues that will completely break my system. directory permissions set to 600?
...s is also 600, so it isn't just a messed up permissions on this one machine. What is the difference between permissions of 600 and 700 for a directory, that is owned by root (group root)? cfengine vs. puppet
...oday, I have run across 2 that seem like good options, cfengine and puppet. Does anyone have any thoughts about either of these tools? Is there definite advantage to using one over the other from your experience? error when logging into system
...e shadow files. All of the files in the user's home directory have the ownership and group set to id 1000. I have rebooted the system to make sure nothing was being stored in memory, with the same results. ...getting back to this. Evidentally, I had spent too much time looking at this last week. When I opened up /etc/passwd, it was specifly the default group for the user to be 500, not 1000 that I thought I saw. I changed this to 1000, and everything works now. Disabling Password authenitication with SSH
...daemon (/etc/init.d/sshd restart), but it still allows the user to login using their password. What am I missing? Searching google, only turned up the changes that I made above, so I am unclear what else that I need to do. ssh port forwarding

I have also made sure that port 22222 is opened on both machine firewalls (including the EC2 security group). firewall issue
...em-config-securitylevel-tui. Those are the only lines that I can find that mention port 2049 or nfs. Those lines look to me like they are for accepting incoming connections only. Is that correct?
