Surprise Thread Preemptions
...ogram has same priority (priority zero), so that we can reduce priority inversions (saving preemptions -- system overhead). However, I ran the following script whoprempt.d to see who preempted myprogram threads and got the following output Unlike what I thought, myprogram threads are preempted (for 2796 times -- last line of the output) by the threads of same myprogram.
Could anyone explain why this happens, please?

sorting matrix output alphabetically
...s
a section of the code that I have used and an excerpt of the output:
What I wanted to be able to do is to view the output alphabetically -
rather than the results being sorted by frequency as below, that an
alphabetical list would be generated. This would be quite long as the
matrix is 176 x 2796, so I was hoping I could save the output in a
csv file, which could be manipulated either in R or EXCEL.
Any advice as to how I could do this is appreciated,
Bob

aha! (was apple mail vs. v0.99)
it seems that when you say "check for new mail" in apple mail, it sends
a NOOP to the imap server to get the response. in uw, the conversation
is something like:
25 NOOP
25 OK NOOP completed
26 NOOP
* 2796 EXISTS
* 7 RECENT
26 OK NOOP completed
however, with dovecot, if it has already notified the client that new
mail has arrived, it will look something like:
* 24 EXISTS
* 2 RECENT
22 NOOP
22 OK NOOP completed.
23 NOOP
23 OK NOOP completed.

[Bug 3505] New: SSH_MSG_CHANNEL_WINDOW_ADJUST bottleneck
...7-06-12 is still the current #define for
CHAN_TCP_WINDOW_DEFAULT.
64*32*1024 = 2 MiB, but in 2022, I predict that networks are faster on
average than in 2007.
Some examples for 2 MiB BDP:
- 200ms @ 84 mbps
- 100ms @ 168 mbps
- 50ms @ 336 mbps
- 25ms @ 671 mbps
- 12ms @ 1398 mbps
- 6ms @ 2796 mbps
- 3ms @ 5592 mbps
Not everyone runs networks which exceed these parameters, but we do on
high-latency WANs.
The problem I'm seeing is the artificial bandwidth restriction
resulting from CHAN_TCP_WINDOW_DEFAULT being supplied to channel_new's
local_window_max.
It doesn't matter...

puppet: 3.1.1 -> 3.2.1 load increase
Hi,
I recently updated from puppet 3.1.1 to 3.2.1 and noticed quite a bit of
increased load on the puppetmaster machine. I''m using
the Apache/passenger/rack way of puppetmastering.
Main symptom is: higher load on puppetmaster machine (8 cores):
- 3.1.1: around 4
- 3.2.1: around 9-10
Any idea why there''s more load on the machine with 3.2.1?
