What Happened to my SAMBA? Permissions Issue
OK. Everything is going great for 4 years on my FC3 Samba Version 3.0.3-5.
Now all of a sudden, when someone opens a Word/Excel file on a Samba share, it changes the user Owner to that user as well as modifies the permissions to r-x and leaves the group/permission bits/owner setting alone.
I have the root directories for all shares with the u and g sticky bits set on, but it is not enforcing

Applet?
Hello people. I would like to know if someone knows about any applet to include in a web page to start calls. What I am looking for is something that doesn't allow users to change numbers, or any other option, so I can include it in my web page and force them to call to me and no one else.
I have tried JIAXClient, but it allows people to call anywhere, and what I want is just a configurable

What I would like to do: can it be done?
I have a RHL box running Samba 1.19.8p10 (or whatever the latest one is). I
would like to share the /home/httpd directory read-only to everyone on the
network and read/write to a few specific people. I cannot get the passwords
for these people, and I want this to be as transparent as possible (read: as
"invisible" as possible). I don't want to have to add every user to the
group, but

invoking LDA in .forward
...or people using mostly remote MUAs, it might be interesting to use
Dovecot's LDA. I read on http://wiki.dovecot.org/LDA that this is
possible using .forward files, however this fails on our system with :
file_lock_dotlock() failed with mbox file /var/mail/user: Permission denied
(/var/mail is 2775 for root:mail as recently discussed).
Is there a possible fix ? I also read that deliver is not designed to be
run setuid root, I guess this also applies to being run setgid mail...

user authentication issue
Hey Jeremy,
Thanks for the advice. I followed your suggestion collected the logged
information for a single connection attempt (i.e. smbclient
//servername/sharename -U username); I've included the log data below (in
the postscript). It looks like Samba is still looking for a Unix user
account and not finding one. I should mention that it seems that I am able
to authenticate as the user; the

Logwatch - malformed password entry(uid not number)
Hi All,
I've the following in the logs and am wondering why they are there.
I also keep getting emails from SAMBA log-deamon (or something like that).
[2003/05/19 15:24:29, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:getsmbfilepwent(364)
getsmbfilepwent: malformed password entry (uid not number)
It's not really serious (at least to me) but it's a cause for concern. Below
are the details

Create mode, create mask etc...
I had no luck with my previous post, so I try again:
Would someone please help me with the "create mode/mask" settings and/or
others if needed, or point me to some docs. In the following 2 examples, I
cannot find the correct settings:
I use the [netlogon] share, and edit logon scripts there from my Windows
machine. The group gets set to my user name's group (mi), execute by others
