Odd transfer speed issue
Hi all, I'm seeing slow transfers to/from my samba server. I just tried to copy a 270MB file from a samba share to an XP machine. At first, the estimated time displayed as 141 minutes :( The odd thing is that if I then flood-ping from the server (in this case, I pinged my dsl router), the transfer completes in about 10 seconds. Hitting F5 repeatedly when browsing a share on the se...

LLD/Link find out what triggers 80mb exe
Is there any way to find out what causes a 80mb executable with lld/link? The object files are compiled with -function-sections and -data-sections, the originating .lib is 270mb, but I'm calling 1 function in it, which might call some stuff recursively, but I don't know how to find out what exactly triggers the use. Is there a commandline option that shows this? (repro is 286 mb) : http://gofile.me/4Gflq/OOr8WKU12

...ixed it): https://github.com/skeggsb/nouveau/commit/024bda7d2b0c3b0731433d60a494c78ab58cb216 which is what causes us to even try 540MB/s link training. However with this fix applied, it'll just give up faster. I'm told eDP is generally a single lane, and you're trying to get more than 270MB/s. So ... the question is ... why is it trying to do 10bpc. One likely reason is that the display_info.bpc == 0 for some reason (and we, rather questionably, default to 10bpc for bandwidth determination). There's no concrete theory as to what that reason might be, but it would explain what'...

questions about zil
I recently got a new SSD (ocz vertex LE 50gb) It seems to work really well as a ZIL performance wise. My question is, how safe is it? I know it doesn''t have a supercap so lets'' say dataloss occurs....is it just dataloss or is it pool loss? also, does the fact that i have a UPS matter? the numbers i''m seeing are really nice....these are some nfs tar times before

Flush memory on a server?
...ously for more that a few days will have some pages that were used once when some long-running process started and were never referenced again. Those pages will eventually migrate out to swap, and that's the best place for them. Right now, I see that this system has been up for 16 days and has ~270MB of swap used. I typically see ~500MB of swap used when the system has been running a while longer. -- Bob Nichols "NOSPAM" is really part of my email address. Do NOT delete it.

...with the performance boost provided by the new nVidia SATA driver. I had noticed a drop in bonnie++ performance once the pool started to fill up, but with the new drive its is better than the original fresh performance. With a stripe of 4 2 way mirrors (Seagate320GB 16M drives) block write is now 270MB/s (up from 228) and block read 428MB/s (up from 296). Ian

...06.00.009) with the driver is buggy if you use more than 1 unit. (Hotspares are considered as an unit.). We got a new firmware from 3ware support and it solves the problem. With some tweaking and 5 x RAID 5 volume on 3 x 3ware card (capacity around 5TB) we got with the iozone test 160MB/s write and 270MB/s Read. If you want more detailed information contact me.
