OS does not see all my RAM
My BIOS shows all my RAM, but when I boot up linux it does not see all the RAM I have two one GIG sticks of RAM, which show up in my bios, but when typing free, I see that it only shows 256Megs. Is there a way to specify the amount of RAM if linux cannot detect this, or how can I fix/tweak the OS to recognize the amount of RAM my OS is centos-4-x86_64 on a DELL 1850 [root at smtcorav02 ~ ]# free total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 251...

pam_ldap.so memory leaks?
...is using passdb pam with blocking=yes, with pam_ldap.so handling most authentication (although in special cases I am using a custom written pam module which I have disabled to eliminate as the source of the leak). The dovecot-auth process' VmRSS size grows by 4k per request and has a limit of 256megs. Unfortunately turning blocking=yes off isn't an option. The reason I must have it turned on is that the custom pam module is changing the username on specific requests. I am trying to pinpoint the memory leak (pam_ldap is my biggest suspect right now though I'm going to try running valgrin...

capacity testing
...have been using and testing it for about a week now. My initial hope has been to use it as a sip<->h323 gateway to tie SIP & H323 based ip phones together with my Cisco AS5300 and Lucent MaxTNT/MVAM networks. I am currently running Asterisk 0.5.0 under Redhat 9 on a single PIII 800 with 256megs RAM. I have tried a couple CVS version from the past week (maybe 01/09/04 and 01/14/04) and have not been able to get them to work semi-reliably in my simple 1 or 2 call test cases. v.0.5.0 has supported those ok. Primarily test cases have involved sending ip phone calls via SIP to Asterisk and hav...

G4-400mhz enough for CentOS 4.3?
It's that time again. I'm stuck with a bunch of older Powermac G4's that I either need to repurpose or give the heave ho. I've not tried CentOS on Mac hardware before. Would the following config be suitable for a (somewhat slow) workstation? PowerMac G4 400mhz 256mb RAM 40gig ATA disk Some sort of dual-head ATI video setup with 64mb VRAM (I've forgotten which cards they

IP Cop as a firewall and QOS
We are looking for a good firewall replacement which will basically do pot blocking and QOS. Our current solution just plain stinks.. We basically need to handle the traffic of a few web servers, mail server and asterisk box. The most traffic this device will need to handle is what can be shoved through a T1. I don't mind buying an appliance to get something solid but IP Cop just looks
