The docs a re a bit weird on "Directory hashing"
In squid we use a double layer of hashed directories on the FS to allow
storage of millions of files.
I was reading the "Directory hashing" section but never understood it..
since it's written.. in a way I could not understand.
I am using this line:
mail_location = maildir:/home/vmail/%d/%n/Maildir/
and I want to migrate to a hash based directory scheme.

pop3 not autocreating directory structure
We use:
mail_home = /srv/mailstore/%256LRHu/%Ld/%Ln
mail: mdbox:~/mdbox
and I just noticed one of our newly provisioned users initially failed
to pop her mails. I saw several of these:
dovecot:: pop3(new.user at example.net): Error: Couldn't open INBOX: Mailbox doesn't exist: INBOX
dovecot:: pop3(new.user at example.net): Coul...

Migration from v1 to v2 with hashed directory structure
Hi,
I want to upgrade to version 2 but I would like to solve a long
standing problem with 'flat' directory structure ie
we have /var/spool/vmail/mydomain.com/user at mydomain.com and I want a
new server with version 2 to have
hashed directory structure like /var/spool/vmail/mydomain.com/u/s/user
I was wondering it f there is some better solution then dir hashing or
a way to hash a dir

Dsync command used:

With these dovecot.conf settings:
mail_home = /srv/mailstore/%256LRHu/%Ld/%Ln

migrate 15K users to new domain name
I need to migrate 15K users to a new domain name, and plan to use "dsync
mirror" in the transition phase. Could someone confirm that this should
work:
Before giving users access to new-domain do a first sync to get all the
stale data over:
for user in $old-domain; do
dsync mirror $user at old-domain $user at new-domain
