24G running on centos 5 desktop.
Hi All,
Thought I would let those that are interested know that I had success in
running 24G on an Asus P6T with 24G kit of Kingston DDR3. While I was
putting this together I saw lots of forum posts asking if anyone had tried
it. Well we did here at our work and all looks great including running
"memtest86" overnight.
I have a fluid dynamics simulation running on it with 90%...

Cannot open: No space left on device
So, trying to find why the VHDD (Virtual HDD) has left out of space I ran
the following command:
*df -h*

tmpfs 2.0G 0 2.0G 0% /dev/shm
/dev/sda1 477M 80M 373M 18% /boot
And then I've tried to find the conflictive files by running:
*du -hsx * | sort -rh | head -10*

Maildir to mdbox conersion size issue
...o,
I have issue with dovecot 2.2.13
I want to change all Maildirs to mdbox format and I do it per partes, so
I change mail_location for user (in sql), than I use doveadm sync -u
user path_to_maildir and everything works mostly fine.
But now I found that when I migrate quite huge Maildir (about 24G of
mails) to mdbox, after sync the final mdbox is twice as big as source
Maildir (48GB). I tried to find duplicities, but didn't find any.
Is there any reason why mdbox consume so much data? Or I do something
wrong?
Does somebody have same experience?
Thanks

An initial sync will be about one fourth as fast a a cp of the same
files. "Ok, that's not a huge deal. Subsequent syncs should be a lot
faster" I though.
No.
Using a native windows sync tool, a sync of the source to the
destination takes perhaps 5 minutes. (~24G, 80K files) However using
rsync takes a very long time. (I've never let it finish, but it's
still running an hour later or more...)
Here's how I run it:
rsync --recursive --delete --verbose --stats --perms --super

Linux boxes typically reserve the last 5% of volume space for use by root only, so as far as your normal user is concerned, the volume is in fact full.

i386 hypervisor seeing only ~16G RAM, amd64 required?
Hi,
I have several machines using xen-hypervisor-3.2-1-i386 from
etch-backports and they recently got upgraded to 20 or 24G RAM. I
have seen talk of a limit of a 16G RAM with 32bit PAE Xen and indeed
this is what I am seeing.
I am guessing there is still no way to get the 32bit hypervisor to
see more than 16G RAM, and I must go to 64bit.
Can I boot a 64bit hypervisor and still keep the same 32bit dom0?
What're pe...

My future plan
...for the above RAID controller
4 X RAID10 Arrays (4 X 1.5TB disks per array, 16 disks in total)
Each RAID10 array will connect to 2 nodes (8 nodes per storage server)
Intel PT 1Gbps Quad port NIC using Linux bonding
Exposes 8 X 1.5GB iSCSI targets (each node will use one of these)
HP Procurve 1800-24G switch to create 1 X 4 port trunk (for storage server), and 8 X 2 port trunk (for the nodes)
What you think? Any tips?
Thanks

General speed question
...l --delete --rsync-path=/usr/local/bin/rsync \
--exclude ".netscape/cache/" --delete-excluded \
bigserver:/staff1 /mirror/bigserver
It takes about 20 minutes to check/transfer files from
bigserver:/staff1 (Solaris 8) and the local machine (RH 7.2,
Linux 2.4.2-2). bigserver/staff1 is 24G.
Is that speed fast or slow? I think it's slow for a 100M fullduplex
private network. It goes from a private NIC on bigserver to the
hub to a private NIC on the local host - all 100M fullduplex.
The output is showing many directories transferred, although no files
within the directories a...

imaptest: performance testing
...is the best way to put a really heavy load on an imap server?
The documentation describes testing correctness of the server without
really emphasising performance.
I would like to do something like dnsperf, which adds a linearly
increasing load until the server is unable to cope.
This machine has 24G RAM and 8 cores. I'll be grateful for any
constructive suggestions.
