Errors on an SSD drive
I am building a new system using an Kingston 240GB SSD drive I pulled from my notebook (when I had to upgrade to a 500GB SSD drive). Centos install went fine and ran for a couple days then got errors on the console. Here is an example: [168176.995064] sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] tag#14 FAILED Result: hostbyte=DID_BAD_TARGET driverbyte=DRIVER_OK [16817...

high memory guest issues - virsh start and QEMU_JOB_WAIT_TIME
Hi all, In IRC last night Dan helpfully confirmed my analysis of an issue we are seeing attempting to launch high memory KVM guests backed by hugepages... In this case the guests have 240GB of memory allocated from two host NUMA nodes to two guest NUMA nodes. The trouble is that allocating the hugepage backed qemu process seems to take longer than the 30s QEMU_JOB_WAIT_TIME and so libvirt then most unhelpfully kills the barely spawned guest. Dan said there was currently no workaround...

Scalability of Dovecot in the Cloud
...nt/Drafts folders) and each user will probably have an average of 2 devices that have the mail clients configured to access each mailbox. Can such a server handle 100,000 mailboxes (200,000 devices/clients)? Or is it more like 10,000? Or, even smaller? I can scale the cloud VM up to 32 vCores and 240GB RAM (at 8 times the price) or split the mailboxes onto multiple VMs. The VM will also be running LMTP and other Dovecot services (I don?t plan on supporting POP3 at this time). The mailboxes will be sync?d to a backup VM running Dovecot for high availability so has some load from this background ac...

ext3 filesystem with directory errors, e2fsck claims to be error free.
I have a bit of a problem with the machine I use at home for backups. The main partition the backups reside on is a 4 disk RAID-5, totaling around 240GB. This has had some sort of corruption inflicted on it, in the content of the (at least) one directory, where there are now corrupted directory entries. This happened after I added an additional SiS PCI IDE controller card to the machine and put two of the drives on their own IDE chains. At least...

Resizing ext4 fedora qemu guest
Hi, I have a fedora14 host with a fedora15 guest and I'm trying to resize the /home partition from 200GB to 240GB. I'm relatively new to the virsh/guestfish commands, as well as LVM, although I think I have a reasonable understanding. I have followed the virt-resize directions (http://libguestfs.org/virt-resize.1.html), but it still shows 200GB: # fdisk -l /dev/mapper/vg_custserv-lv_home Disk /dev/mapper...

ZFS panic while mounting lofi device?
I believe ZFS is causing a panic whenever I attempt to mount an iso image (SXCR build 39) that happens to reside on a ZFS file system. The problem is 100% reproducible. I''m quite new to OpenSolaris, so I may be incorrect in saying it''s ZFS'' fault. Also, let me know if you need any additional information or debug output to help diagnose things.
