unexpected R crash - again
...hat the problem was not related to the Windows port (as the original author implied) but to the amount of memory R was started with. I just ran some tests on this I have to report that I am getting crashes every time I try this problem. (1) On my WinNT machine I got up to Rgui.exe --vsize=220M --nsize=4000k which produces > gc() free total (Mb) Ncells 3857498 4000000 76.3 Vcells 28790374 28835840 220.0 and it still crashes with the "referenced memory cannot be read" message. I also noticed that the error message comes immediately, no matter how large...

puppet: 3.1.1 -> 3.2.1 load increase
Hi, I recently updated from puppet 3.1.1 to 3.2.1 and noticed quite a bit of increased load on the puppetmaster machine. I''m using the Apache/passenger/rack way of puppetmastering. Main symptom is: higher load on puppetmaster machine (8 cores): - 3.1.1: around 4 - 3.2.1: around 9-10 Any idea why there''s more load on the machine with 3.2.1? -- You received this

unaccounted for daily growth in ZFS disk space usage
We finally flipped the switch on one of our ZFS-based servers, with approximately 1TB of 2.8TB (3 stripes of 950MB or so, each of which is a RAID5 volume on the adaptec card). We have snapshots every 4 hours for the first few days. If you add up the snapshot references it appears somewhat high versus daily use (mostly mail boxes, spam, etc changing), but say an aggregate of no more than 400+MB a

compression at zfs filesystem creation
Hi, I just installed 2009.06 and found that compression isn''t enabled by default when filesystems are created. Does is make sense to have an RFE open for this? (I''ll open one tonight if need be.) We keep telling people to turn on compression. Are there any situations where turning on compression doesn''t make sense, like rpool/swap? what about rpool/dump? Thanks, ~~sa
