gluster volume + lvm : recommendation or neccessity ?
...it seems recommended to use XFS over LVM before creating & using gluster volumes. Sources : https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Storage/3/html/Administration_Guide/Formatting_and_Mounting_Bricks.html http://gluster.readthedocs.io/en/latest/Administrator%20Guide/Setting%20Up%20Volumes/ My point is : do we really need LVM ? For example , on a dedicated server with disks & partitions that will not change of size, it doesn't seems necessary to use LVM. I can't understand clearly wich partitioning strategy would be the best for "static size" hard drives :...

Arbiter node as VM
...XFS with LVM this provisioning as mentioned in the - is it OK that my arbiter runs Debian 9 (Linux kernel v4) and my other two nodes run Debian 8 (kernel v3)? - what about thin provisioning of my volume on the arbiter node (https://gluster.readthedocs.io/en/latest/Administrator%20Guide/Setting%20Up%20Volumes/) is this required? on my two other nodes I do not use any thin provisioning neither LVM but simply ZFS. Thanks in advance for your input. Best regards, Mabi -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: <http://lists.gluster.org/pipermail/gluster-users/attachme...

Adding storage capacity to a production disperse volume
...he current configuration of 'Number > of Bricks: 1 x (4 + 1) = 5'? ... > I tried something similar and ended up with a similar error. As far as I understand the documentation the answer in your case is "5". See: https://docs.gluster.org/en/v3/Administrator%20Guide/Managing%20Volumes/#expanding-volumes "... When expanding distributed replicated and distributed dispersed volumes, you need to add a number of bricks that is a multiple of the replica or disperse count. ..." One suboptimal idea could be: divide the new device in 5 partitions and add these 5 partitions a...

This recommendations was added after gluster-snapshot. Gluster snapshot relays on LVM snapshot. Turn off replication
We have a Gluster setup with 2 nodes (distributed replication) and we would like to switch it to the distributed mode. I know the data is duplicated between those nodes, what is the proper way of switching it to a distributed, we would like to double or gain the storage space on our gluster storage node. what happens with the data, do i need to erase one of the nodes? Help with reconnecting a faulty brick

I don't want to reconnect it right away because I'm not sure what's the state of the data on this brick for Gluster, I'd just like to discard everything and sync from the running brick. I red http://docs.gluster.org/en/latest/Administrator%20Guide/Managing%20Volumes/#replace-faulty-brick but my setup has some differences (I'm in pure replication mode, no distribution, and I'm not replacing a brick, I just want to bring back a previously existing one, I just want to be sure Gluster will discard its data and sync from the other, and not create a spli...
