Recent MAC improvements
Hi,
There has been some recent work to improve the speed of the Message
Authentication Codes (MACs) that are used in OpenSSH.
The first improvement is a change from Markus Friedl to reuse the MAC
context, rather than reinitialising it for every packet. This saves two
calls to the underlying hash function (e.g. SHA1) for each packet. My
tests found that this yielded at 12-16% speedup for bulk

[Off Topic, kind of] eMachine model T5254
...ecent complaints on
www.consumeraffairs.com. I didn't take the time to do a thourgh search
so may have missed some. Red Hat hardware list does not have one
eMachine listed. I went to eMachine's home page and found the following:
AMD Athlon? BE-2350 dual-core processor
NVIDIA? GeForce? 6100
2048MB DDR2 dual-channel
320GB 7200rpm SATA II
16x DVD?R/RW SuperMulti drive
High-performance 15-in-1 digital media card reader
6-channel (5.1) high-definition audio
They do not list the manufacturer/model of the media card reader and
audio.
Any hardware guru see any problems?

Drives Not Recognized on Dell Poweredge 1550 CentOs4 install
I have a new (used)Dell Poweredge 1550 server with 2 scsi drives (dual 1ghz
w/ 2048MB) that I'm attempting to install CentOs 4 onto and am having
problems getting the darn thing to recognize the hard drives. (it's worth
noting that it's running RAID 0 and the RAID bios recognizes both drives as
being in "optimal" state). I start the installation process and a...

Frequent Out of Memory for service(config)
...service that is used by our
applications to pass mail from one application to another internally. We
have roughly 4 applications that connect to the Pop3 service every 2
seconds, to check for new messages and pop them for processing if they are
present. Depending on the site, we have between 1024-2048MB of memory set
for default_vsz_limit. In all systems we see the Out of memory alert
several times a day. We previously did not see this at all when running on
CentOS6, with less memory.
We have tried increasing the memory to the vsz_limit up to 2gb without
success.
We are running on CentOS 7 serv...

How to allocate more memories to R?
When I use this I am getting following warning at the time of opening R from
that shortcut :
"-max-mem-size=2048MB:too large and taken as 2047M"
Why I am getting this? I have 3GB ram installed and using within Vista.
Thanks

When googling, someone out there suggest manually configure the MTRR, can somebody help us how to configure this six-core's MTRR? I am guessing this must be MTRR related. Is it possible the current Linux kernel doesn't understand six-core very well?

Partitioning samba server
...g roughly up to 1200GB (Planning on
using RAID5). I am just wondering what the best possible way to partition it
for performance.
Details
--------
RAM = 1 GB
Users = there will only be one user for this server.
Sample partition
---------------------
/ (root) = 1GB
/usr = 1GB
/var = 1 GB
/swap = 2048MB
/files = rest of the hard disk
Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you.

swap_pager: indefinite wait
...about 100 Internet domains.
We recently purchased a DELL MD3000i server with data access through
ISCSI protocol.
I installed a new server with FreeBSD 7.0 compiled kernel with ISCSI
(v. 2.1) and SCHED_ULE scheduler.
The server's local disk configuration is:
512 MB /
1024 MB SWAP
254 MB / var
2048MB / var/ qmail
512 MB /tmp
~ 70 GB /usr
The apache data (/usr/local/www), postgre (/usr/local/pgsql) and qmail
(/usr/local/vpopmail) are instead on the partition on ISCSI. After
installing all the necessary softwares I tested the machine as mail
server for a one domain and everything worked fine for...

Performance & capacity characteristics of R?
I hope this is merely a FAQ, and not an AFAQ (annoyingly....).
I'm a SAS programmer, with several years' experience of the system,
evaluating alternatives. See the SAS for Linux website (URL in sig) for
more info.
I'm exploring R's capabilities and limitations. I'd be very interested
in having a deeper understanding of it capacity and performance
limitations in dealing with

PRI dropping #2
...tried swapping the card with a spare TE121 I have. Exactly same
error, so I don't think it's an hardware issue. I also have had two
different telco guys out, both said the connection was fine, but one
mentioned something about me being out of 'stroke'/sync - they're
running at a 2048Mb frequency, I was some 20 below. He didn't explain
too good.
Any help appreciated.
