Will 200KB/s drive access be OK for voicemail storage?
I'm using a Linksys WRT54G router and it works great but it only has 4MB of storage. One of my only options is to modify the router to accept SD cards (eg. 512MB) but the access time is only around 200 KB/s. Will this be fast enough to store voicemails? ...or do I need another (faster) storage device?

Will 200KB/s drive access be OK for voicemailstorage?
Its slow :) It will give you some delays but it will not be noticeable (most voice files are 5-100kb, so it should be ok... But writing to them.. Not sure.. It should be ok as well I'm guessing as kernel will provide some caching (since you have G and not GS it has less ram, so maybe chaching is not an option) Best would be to get WL-500G. It has a USB port so you can plug a USB memory stick

[Solved] Re: Quota not showing correctly after conversion (mb2md.pl)
...me >> have 50mb to 150mb of mails. The migration is part of the cleanup >> process. > That's quite a confusing paragraph. Do you just mean that "quota is > counted wrong for the old converted messages"? If the user received new mail on the new system, say, around 200kb, and then he/she logs in, messages from the old system are copied. If he had 100Mb of mails (old system), and quota is 20Mb, only the 200kb are shown. Dovecot was not restarted. The problem was what you pointed out, maildirsize had to be deleted, then everything seems to be ok - getquotaroot indica...

upload file above /public, authenticate before serving?
I have file uploads to the database and stored in a longblob working on our client extranet, except that it kills mysql/activeRecord on files bigger than about 200kb. (is there a reason for this - running mysql 5.0.18, lighttpd or webrick on winxp??) So I''m now thinking about whether its possible to do either: 1) upload a file into #rails_root/some_folder/ instead of /public/some_folder, store a reference to the file in the db instead and somehow...

File size limit
...ike the smbd daemon to behave like this: When the user maps his home directory to a drive letter using Windows Explorer, he should be able to write as much to his home dir as he wants (no quota limit) but he should be able to read or transfer to his local PC drive only files whose size is less than 200KB, for example. Is there a way to do this (i.e. option in smb.conf or code modification)? I would appreciate any hints. Thank you in advance, -- Yannis Vamvakoulas

is glusterfs DHT really distributed?
Hi All, I noticed a very weird phenomenon when I'm copying data (200KB image files) to our glusterfs storage. When I run only run client, it copies roughly 20 files per second and as soon as I start a second client on another machine, the copy rate of the first client immediately degrade to 5 files per second. When I stop the second client, the first client wi...

gestión de la memoria en R? (o Eclipse)

R doesn't use all available memory
...seems to refuse to take more than about 800Mb even though there is apparently about 950Mb still free - not to mention swap space. I've tried changing mem.limits() etc. with no effect. The result is an error of the ilk "Error: cannot allocate vector of size 105183 Kb" (or 7000kb,or 200kb, or whatever, depending on what I am attempting to do, once I hit that limit). This seems to be a problem with R or my system, not the specific code since I can reproduce it a variety of ways. Am I missing something? Thanks for any help. Please reply to this email address. NAS with Samba and Multi-TT USB Hubs
...it takes much longer, than copying simultaneously in the local directories of the raspberry. F.e. I've four devices connected to the hub. On each device is just a single 50MB file. If I copy the whole content of just one device to a local directory (/home/pi/test) it takes about four minutes (~200kB/s) If I copy the whole content of all four devices to a local directory at the same time it takes also four minutes because of the multi-TT hub. (With a single-tt hub it would take 16 minutes) If I copy the whole content of all four devices with a Windows PC, using the samba server on the raspberry...

Performance issue on AIX when deleting files in a directory with a large number of files
...http://us4.samba.org/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/AIX/ and it has the same problem as well. Client: MS Windows XP SP2 We have an application that creates a large number of files in a single directory. At peak times the number of files in that directory get up around 150,000. The files are around 10-200KB in size. When I try to delete files out of that directory then things get really slow ... up to 2-3 seconds per file ... and the CPU utilization on the server goes up near 100%. If I delete files out of that directory directly on the box then it goes very quickly so it seems like this is definitely...

network extremely slow
...amba-server with 15nt-clients on a 100MBit-Switch. Now I faced extremely poor performance and really have no idea why. I even dont know if it can be a samba-problem. When copying myriads of small file from a client to the server or vice versa I get bad performance: 1000 files a 16kb: ~80seconds = 200kb/second But this is highspeed compared to copying from nt to nt: 1000 files a 16kb: ~18 minutes (sic!!) = 14kb/second !! When copying big files (132MB) I get better performance (~3MB/sec, which still could be much better). I know this is some kind of question: 'my car dont work. why ?', b...

2 Questions on filtering incoming stuff
Two easy questions after having read the LARTC HOWTO document (which by the way is a *fantastic* document. Congratulations to all who contributed!) First is: Can I prioritise my "drops" on incoming traffic when the link is overloaded. ie instead of just tail dropping, can I "prefer" to drop certain classes of traffic? If so, do I do this by setting up, say, a HTB tree

[LLVMdev] Introductions to everyone and a call for Python-LLVM enthusiasts
...fast to offset the cost of compiling something. And we have to be really sure what we compile (dynamic feedback) because recompilation is expensive too. This is less of a problem for long running processes, but think about a javascript jit. LLVM is also really memory hungry: Lua + LuaJIT uses just 200kb, LLVM alone is much larger. Again less of a problem for server processes, as dynamic libs are shared. Full Disclosure: I was a independent contributor to Unladen Swallow Unladen Swallow failed on 2). It was clearly targeted on long running processes, but it failed to provide a reasonable performa...

UDPbuffer adjustment
...roc/sys/net/core/rmem_max and /proc/sys/net/core/wmem_max to 10MB by below command(in order to increase the UDP buffer size): sysctl -w net.core.rmem_max=10485760 ; sysctl -w net.core.wmem_max=10485760 but keep /proc/sys/net/core/rmem_default and /proc/sys/net/core/wmem_dafault unchanged, which is 200KB. and I don’t have any UDPRcvBuf and UDPSndBuf config in the tinc.conf, so what’s the udp buffer size for tinc? should I change /proc/sys/net/core/rmem_default and /proc/sys/net/core/wmem_dafault as well? or prefer to set that by UDPRcvBuf and UDPSndBuf in tinc.conf? also do I need to kill/start t...

locking.tdb size
...lder posts with similar topics[0] and in [1] (from 2009) it was stated that: > 2mb is small, it *will* grow larger than this. Putting these files on > tmpfs is not a good idea. I keep monitoring the size of my locking.tdb for some time now and most of the time its size is about 60 or 200KB. Only sometimes it grows to MB ranges. The test in [1] was not able to reproduce the issue, so I still don't know what would make locking.tdb growing like this. Looking into locking.tdb via strings(1) reveals a lot of entries that are not active any more, as the client who was accessing the...
