Does Samba 3 work in a Windows 2008 R2 with NO WINS and NO NETBIOS
Hopefully a quick question.
My Windows AD administrator is moving to Windows 2008R and is about to
switch off the last Windows 2003 domain controller.
He also wants to switch off the compatible WINS and NETBIOS off as well.
Does samba 3 work in this environment or do I need to tell him to keep
then working?
Cheers,
Andrew

After upgrading the Windows DCs from Windows 2003R2 to Windows 2008R,
the domain functional level was raised from Windows 2000 to Windows

And people who is connected to its DCs or servered by it very active uses
Windows analogue of nmb functionality (built-in in Windows of course) in
their LANs.
I will remember, that nmbd in addition makes server visible in Network
Neighborhood, in some points takes...

I presume you mean the functional level. With the correct options, it
should work. See the release notes.
