sorting question
...out custom sorting before and it appears that -- in terms of a
user-defined order -- it can only be done either by defining a custom class
or using various tricks with "order"
Just wondering if anyone has a clever way to order "vintages" of the form
2002, 2003H1, 2003H2, 2004, 2005Q1, 2005Q2, etc
some have H1 or H2, some have Q1,Q2,Q3,Q4, some are just plain years. They
should be sorted in the obvious order. I can think of doing something with
s'trsplit' and 'order' but anyone have anything better?
(I still wonder why sorting with a user-defined function isn...

Add a string to each string of an array
Dear all,
I have an array of strings
a <- c("2008q3","2005q1","2004q3")
I would like to add to each a, with i = 1,2,3
the following string "IMT",
such that in the end I could get
b <- c("IMT2008q3","IMT2005q1","IMT2004q3")
Is it possible to accomplish this without a loop command?
Thank you....

ZFS RAID-Z for Two-Disk Workstation Setup?
...oes appear that RAID-Z can be used on a two-disk system and I was wondering if the system would basically work as Intel''s Matrix RAID for two disks?
Intel Matrix RAID info:
http://www.intel.com/design/chipsets/matrixstorage_sb.htm

My focus with this thread is some basic ZFS information on Solaris installations in a two-disk workstation configuration. Obviously mirrored or striped ZFS pools seem quite straight forward, so my attention naturally turns to ZFS RAID-Z in this application.
Can we expect...

No ~ in JGR
R2.1.0
JGR 1.2

Hello all!
I??ve just installed JGR on my both R-equipped computers and am very
pleased with the look and functionality.
Except in one, very important, way.
I can??t figure out how to get the ~ sign from the keyboard to the
console. Copying it from old code works fine. Using the traditional GUI
works as usual.
I have a Swedish keyboard layout, where ~ shares key with ??

multipath routing question
Hi,
I was reading some old posts on this list, and found this post
(http://mailman.ds9a.nl/pipermail/lartc/2005q1/014963.html) with a link for a
ip route script that is basically what I need.
My question is: when adding ip route rules, should I remove the traditional
default gateway of my linux router?

Performance differences 64-bit vs 32-bit
Hi Guys.
We've got a new server that we're looking to use for an Asterisk
install. The CPU is a 64-bit AMD Opteron 246, 2Gb RAM.
We're having some compilation issues with some of the Asterisk
modules using Debian-amd64, and due to time constraints we are
considering going 32-bit for now just to get the box up and running.
Does anyone have any ballpark figures for the performance

(yet another) HTB question(s)
Hi, I''ve read the documentation about HTB and I pretty much
managed to grasp how it works. In theory. But there still
are some questions and I want to check with you to see if I
understand things correctly. So here goes:
1) when used on a router for shaping traffic done by
clients connected to it, shaping is done on the interface
connected to the cable/dsl modem. If I wanted to create

Help please with tc and iptables mark
...help for my problem (iptables marking the packets
and tc filtering by these marks)?
BTW, I have tried older versions of iproute2 with different versions of
iptables and kernel 2.6.x and 2.4.x as well, but still no luck. Also I have
followed the thread at:
http://mailman.ds9a.nl/pipermail/lartc/2005q1/014673.html
posted by Catalin, which looks great but still no match by fwmark.
Should I suspect an iptables wrong behavior? Or it''s just my stupid brain that
tricks me again?
Any help is much appreciated.
Kind regards,
Adrian

Aggregate data frame across columns
Folks,
I have a data frame with columns 200401, 200402, ..., 201207, 201208.
These represent years/months. What would be the best way to sum these columns by year? What about by quarter?
Thanks for your time,
KW
