2.0.6 and FreeBSD 3.3-RELEASE + socket options = 2.5MB/sec
I am running FreeBSD 3.3-RELEASE with samba 2.0.6 compiled from sources with
patches taken from 2.0.5a (not the current FreeBSD port, but I'll be testing
that soon with 3.4-RELEASE).
The socket options file is
socket options = IPTOS_LOWDELAY TCP_NODELAY SO_SNDBUF=262144 SO_RCVBUF=262144
which is due to Martin Welk.
Currently large files (1GB or greater)are transferring at up to 2.7MB/sec;

File size diff between NFS mount and local disk
Hi all,
I never really paid attention to this but a file on an NFS mount is showing 64M in size, but when copying the file to a local drive, it shows 2.5MB in size.
My NFS server is hardware Raided with a volume stripe size of 128K were the volume size is 20TB.
My NFS clients are the same distro as the server being Centos.
Is this due to my stripe size?
Nuggets are appreciated.

Samba and Terminal Server Whitepaper
Attached is a 500KB read-only .doc file with a Samba and Terminal Server
whitepaper. I have tried to hit every known issue and all available
workarounds. If anyone has comments or suggestions, let me know. JT
has it, so it should end up in the next How-To. Sorry about the file
format, but the .pdf was 2.5MB, which I thought was too big to post.

reading journal statistics
Is there a way to get usage statistics on the journal device? We
are testing battery-backed NVRAM cards with extremely busy 1.7TB
filesystems (mode data=journal) and we need to figure out what size
NVRAM card we need. I assume the journal size depends on how much
writing you are doing and we can do simple theoretical calculations
(writing 2.5MB/s, 60 seconds of journal would be max 150MB), but

Speeding up Transfers of 1000s of files
Hi all,
I have to transfer thousands of files across my network. We are looking at using rsync via a squid proxy to help improve the network tuning. What I am witnessing now is that with each successive file, the transfer speed resets to 0 and ramps up to 2.5MB/s.
Is there anyway that I can group these transfers together to take better advantage of our bandwidth? I should be able to peak at

Slow rsync
Hi,
I use rsync (2.4.6) to mirror some directories from two servers to an
another server.
The mirroring server is RedHat 6.2 with 2.2.15 kernel.
The mirrored servers are: RedHat 6.2 with 2.2.14 kernel / RedHat 6.1
with 2.2.14 (smp).
All servers are connected to the same switch and the network is
100Mbit/s. All servers have 3Com 905 nics.
With the first mirrored server speed is okay, but the

Microsip (Windows) is free and small.
2.5Mb download, 10Mb RAM usage, does everything I need and configuring

installing from src on OS X
Hi
I''ve built WxWidgets (2.5.4) and wxruby-swig (CVS) from source on OS X
(.3). I''ve got something called wx.bundle in lib/ that looks the right
sort of size - 2.5MB - but I don''t know what to do with it to install it
- no rake install or make install?
btw - wx on OS X looks fantastic, esp after seeing a Tk interface inside
Aqua this am ...

HABTM Movable Select Box
Hi,
I found it a while ago, an add-on to Rails for supporting movable select
boxes, but I searched through the wiki and the mailing list and couldnt
find what I was looking for. I was hoping someone might know of or
remember something about the project.
Thanks,
Dylan.

[LLVMdev] Ada support for llvm-gcc4
I'm trying to get the Ada gcc front-end to work with LLVM.
This series of patches gets things to the point where the
Ada compiler builds, though it fails to build itself or the
runtime. While I was there I resurrected fortran and
java: as with Ada, the compilers build but not the runtimes.
Also, I've replaced the gcc 4.0 Ada front-end with a back-port
of the Ada front-end from FSF gcc

updating the db 6000 times will take few minutes ?
i am writing a test program for ActiveRecord, and it reads a document
which is like 6000 words long. And then i just tally up the words by
recordWord = Word.find_by_s(word);
if (recordWord.nil?)
recordWord = Word.new
recordWord.s = word
end
if recordWord.count.nil?
recordWord.count = 1
else
recordWord.count += 1
end
recordWord.save
and so this

Windows: Graphics appear only partially
Dear all,
we have installed R in one of our computer labs. Running demo(grpahics)
works, kindof, in that it produces all the usual plots without crashing, but
the plots are incomplete: no color wheel, no pie chart, no boxplots, just
some labelling, titles, and in rare cases, axes. We have tried this with
both 1.7 and 1.6.2, with the same results. The computers are running Windows
2000, with

ESS 5.2.7 released
Dear ESS users, {BCC'ed to RPM and Debian maintainers of ESS}
We have now released ESS 5.2.7. This is a bug fix release against 5.2.6
where - the new UTF-8 "support" gave problems for Xemacs, and
- accidentally, 'auto-fill-mode' was activated for *.R buffers
with a few new features, see "New Features" below , notably some
extended Sweave supported,
