patch to rsync to add options for pre- and post-transfer commands
In case others find this of value, I wrote a patch to rsync 2.5.6 to give rsync in --daemon mode the ability to run a pre-transfer and post-transfer command. These options handle our need to prepare a server to receive files and to do some processing after receiving files. The options for /etc/rsyncd.conf are pretransfer script = /some/command/to/run posttransfer script =

rsync ported to BeOS-bone
Hello, here is a preliminary patch allowing rsync 2.5.6 to compile in BeOS (using the new BONE networking stack). Some explanations: - BeOS doesn't have chroot(), - the BONE networking stack export legacy network function for old apps in libnet.so (linked to by default), so it's necessary to force linking to the new libraries for things to work. I've yet to get inet_ntop() to be

[PATCH] --source-filter && --dest-filter for rsync 2.5.6
Hi, I needed to filter content of files (encrypt), before they are sent over the network to backup server. The easiest way to do this was modifying Kyle Jones's "--dest-filter" patch. Somebody was asking there this feature in the past, so I'm sending this patch to list. Implementation details: -filtering disables rsync alogrithm -source filter makes temporary files in /tmp

patch to avoid race condition in rsync 2.5.6
There is a small race condition in rsync 2.5.6. When the transfer is finished, and the file is moved into place, there is a short time period where the new file is in place with the wrong permissions. When using rsync on a busy email server to replace the exim config file with a new file, exim will produce several complaints in that short period. This small patch fixes the problem, by making

Patch for stderr logging
Rsync team, and interested parties: i was attempting to get rsync to launch from tcpserver[0] (an inetd replacement from djb) and log to stderr for logging via multilog[1] (syslog replacement by djb) and i was unable to get it to log to stdout/ stderr at all. Red Hat rsync - 'sign' patch
I recently became the new rsync maintainer for Red Hat, and I just completed a review of the current patches that we (Red Hat) maintain for 'rsync'. After removing three unnecessary patches (either already incorporated into rsync-2.5.6, or were outdated and couldn't be applied), we are left with one patch - rsync-2.5.6-sign.patch - which I have attached.

Basic HTTP Proxy Authentication: patch update
Hi all, My patch for supporting "Basic" HTTP Proxy Authentication has been updated for rsync 2.5.6 by Martin Ehmsen. The patch changes the interpretation of the RSYNC_PROXY environment variable so that the syntax user:pass@proxy.foo.com:port may be used instead of just proxy.foo.com:port (the old syntax is, of course, still supported). The updated patch is available at:

Rebuilding rsync to define HAVE_OFFSET64_T
HI, I'm currently using rsync version 2.4.4 protocol version 24 on a HP11.0, Solaris 8 and Redhat 7.1 platforms. In my earlier posting, I asked about the problem on "Value too large to be stored in data type" when transferring files which are >= 2GB in size., i.e. building file list ... global/FCSI/WP_RLS05/rundir/wp_celtic_max_fullwarn.tcl.log: Value too large to be stored in

rsync-2.5.6 build on Red Hat 8.0 fails
The packaging/lsb/rsync.spec file is broken as shipped: It has a "Sept" month (rpmbuild here takes only 3-letter month names), and RH gzips the manpages, so the %files list can't find them. I also added doc/README-SGML and doc/rsync.sgml to the %doc files. Patch follows. Thanks for all the good work! --- rsync-2.5.6/packaging/lsb/rsync.spec.orig 2003-01-28 06:28:35.000000000 +0100

Problem copying >2GB files on HP-UX 11i with rsync 2.5.6
I have downloaded the source for rsync 2.5.6 and compiled it without adjusting any options, no problems. Performed a test copy of a file GT 2 GB and it failed. In the file configure I changed the line to "--enable-largefile", removed all the .o files, performed a ./configure, gmake, gmake install. Tried the test copy and again received the following error message: rsync:
