Issues Booting Hybrid ISO from UFD on Dell PC
Hi, I would like to ask if there are any known issues with booting an ISOLINUX hybrid iso image from a USB Flash Drive on older Dell PC's (i.e. P4 2.2GHz). I've tried several that one should just be able to write to UFD and boot, but they all fail on my hardware. I get "isolinux.bin missing or corrupt" message on screen. This function would be very convenient for me, so

Help with Dev Kit Lite
I installed Asterisk as per instructions in the FAQ on the digium.com site. Double checked it. I also think they have a bug in the zapata.conf where the context should be incoming and not internal. 1) I hear no dialtone when I pickup the phone on the S100U. Asterisk sees the event and displays the message on the screen. I tried dialing but nothing happens. I hangup and * shows the hangup event.

OT: AMD CPU actual speed....
I know this is a bit OT, but the subject of CPU speed came up here and I was (and have been for some time) curious: What is the actual speed of an AMD CPU? E.g., I have a Athlon 64 X2 "4200+" but my /proc/cpuinfo shows 1005.164 MHz for the two cores. What do those mean? Is there a reference for this (huge) discrepancy? Also, is there a way (and what) to tell what the actuall running

hardware and network requirements
Hi i'm planning to migrate a callcenter to asterisk and VOIP, the call center can have up to 25 cuncurrents agents logged in. I'll have some simplty IVR business logic and the some queues. Can a normal server with 1 GB ram 100 GB HDD Pentium 4 3.6 Ghz CPU Ethernet 10/100/1000 Support this? Would you suggest me a particular products? The server and the agents will be in the same LAN,

Randomly and horribly slow
Just as a heads up, I spent days researching this problem before asking, so I hope to not be wasting anyones time. I also asked on the Ubuntu forums with no replies, so I figured it must be a tricky issue that only the creators of Wine can answer. Some info you may want: I recently installed Ubuntu 8.04. It works perfectly fine, including 3D. My computer is a 2.2GHz P4, 768MB of RAM, with a

rsync 2.6.0 causing incredible load on Linux 2.4.x?
Hi everyone. Has anyone experienced rsync 2.6.0 causing huge amounts of system load? Especially on Linux 2.4? We recently upgraded our "push" machine to rsync 2.6.0 and the next push that went out (rsyncing about 3GB of data to 15 servers sequentially over gigabit ethernet) caused the box to hit 110.59. We only know the load because snmpd was still working, but nothing else in userspace

Asterisk daemon dies about once per day
I have an asterisk system where the asterisk daemon dies typically at least once per day. It is running in the wrapper safe_asterisk, which automatically starts the daemon back up. But we find this unacceptable because when the daemon dies, we usually have active calls drop, and sometimes we have to run asterisk -r -x "module reload" after the daemon starts back up before everything is

Dismal R performance of Athlon moble CPU?
I have been using a laptop computer of Pentium III 1.13 Ghz. I heard that AMD's Athlon has excellent floating point capacity. So I bought a Athlon 2200+ laptop yesterday. I expected that new Athlon 2200+ will be twice as fast as the P III 1.13 GB. I ran a R simulation program and the new computer is only 30% faster, in fact slightly slower than a Celeron 1.50 GB laptop. I am very disappointed

Torchlight Performance
Hey all, finally got rid of windows, though we'll see how long that lasts... I really do enjoy my video games and am not looking forward to not having any of them work (can't seem to get any that I expected to work). Anyway... High load average and client timeouts
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I am setting up a proof-of-concept backup server at my office. The end idea is for a dozen or so of our ~200 workstations to dump images (like PowerQuest DeployCenter, not JPEG) to a 2Tb RAID5 at reasonable speeds. The testbed (whose specs are listed below) is, I admit, grossly lacking in RAM. I still think it should handle at least two or three

faster mdct's
Hello Vorbis folks, I'm one of the FFTW authors (www.fftw.org), and a few days ago I was playing with our codelet generator for fun and modified it to spit out hard-coded MDCTs of small sizes. The code (at jdj.mit.edu/~stevenj/mdct_128nr.c) for 256 samples (128 outputs) seems to be almost twice as fast as the Vorbis MDCT code for that size on my 2.2GHz P-IV (gcc 3.2.2 and flags "-O1

Asus P5K-VM & Centos 5.1 x86_64 freezes during yum install
Hello, I'm trying to complete a minimal install of Centos 5.1 x86_64 on a Core 2 Duo 2.2Ghz running on an Asus P5K-VM motherboard - yes, this means it's the G33 chipset. (you can stop laughing now) I'm installing to two SATA-disks setup with Software Raid-1. I've installed an Intel NIC that is detected during install and I'm able to complete the install itself - mind you I

Centos7 Net install on HP A1710N fails
Folks Just for laughs, I took an older 64-bit machine, HP Pavillion A1710N, and tried a net-install of Centos7. The installer complained that there was no network devices available. I then tried a Centos6 Netinstall disk, and it found the controller and worked fine. What should I do? I'd love to get C7 installed on it. David

Quickly generate all possible combinations of 2 groups
Hi all, I suspect the answer to this query will be the tongue-in-cheek "use a quantum computer", but I thought my understanding might be sufficiently limited that I'm missing a simpler option. I'm looking for a way to cycle through all possible combinations of 2 groups of data. For 10 data points, that's 2^10 combinations, for 20 data points it's 2^20, etc. combn() from
