max limit of list size and vector size?
Hi, Is it possible for me to store a list of vectors of 1 million entries? like, cc<-list(c(1,2,........1million),c(1,2,........1million)....) also what is the length of the longest string in R? I keep getting info from a socket and keep pasting on a string...when will this start becoming a problem? [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Samba limitation to concurrent open files
Can Samba handle in the range of 1million to 3 millions concurrently open files? If so, then from which Samba version onwards? Does it have any benchmarking results on maximum number of open files that Samba can have concurrently? Any reply to this question is highly appreciated. Thanks in Advance Santosh

Asterisk on USB Flash?
Size/Speed/write cycles have gone way up, price has gone way down. More common than CompactFlash and no need for an adapter. So is it feasible to run an Asterisk server on something like this? With a MTBF of 1million write cycles coupled with dynamic wear management on a 4Gig USB drive, lifetime is a non-issue. Just wondering how well it works, if it works.

large dataset import, aggregation and reshape
...ing the huge data per se (but the data with dim c(12,5) << 2GB?) b) converting the time-stamp to a 'Date' class c) aggregate and reshape task What are the steps you would recommend? (i) using scan, instead of read.delim (with or without colClasses?) (ii) importing blocks of data (eg 1Million lines once), aggregating them, importing the next block, so on? (iii) putting the data into a MySQL database, importing from there and doing the reshape and aggregation in R for both factors separately thanks for hints from your valuable experience cheers christoph

tinc vpn: adding dscp passthrough (priorityinherit), ecn, and fq_codel support
...nd works pretty well if you have enough bandwidth - I routinely run a few low latency networks with near zero packet loss, and near-perfect utilization... which impresses me, at least... ECN makes me nervous in general when enabled outside the datacenter, but as something like 60% of the alexa top 1million will enable ecn if asked nowadays, I hope that that worry extends to enough more people for me to worry less. http://ecn.ethz.ch/ I am concerned that enabling ECN generally breaks Tor over tcp even worse at the moment.... (I hadn't thought about it til my last message) Certainly I think ECN...

Proxy IMAP/POP/ManageSieve/SMTP in a large cluster enviroment
Hi to all in the list, we are trying to do some tests lab for a large scale mail system having this requirements: - Scale to maybe 1million users(Only for testing). - Server side filters. - User quotas. - High concurrency. - High performance and High Availability. We plan to test this using RHEL5 and maybe RHEL6. As a storage we are going to use an HP EVA 8400 FC(8 GB/s) We defined this functional roles. 1- Outgoing SMTP gateway se...

tinc vpn: adding dscp passthrough (priorityinherit), ecn, and fq_codel support
I have long included tinc in the cerowrt project as a lighter weight, meshy alternative to conventional vpns. I sat down a few days ago to think about how to make vpn connections work better through fq_codel, and decided I should maybe hack on a vpn to do the job. So I picked up tinc's source code for the first time, got it working on IPv6 as a switch in a matter of minutes between two

5,000 concurrent calls system rollout question
Hi, we are currently considering different options for rolling out a large scale IP PBX to handle around 3,000 + concurrent calls. Can this be done with Asterisk? Has it been done before? I really would like an input on this. Thanks! -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:
